Had a couple of chicken pieces and defrosted a couple of pork chops, have put them in with onion, red pepper, stock and some dried garlic & chilli. No idea what it will turn out like! I will thicken up the stock to make a gravy and prob serve with mash and veg

I did lamb shanks in mine yesterday and they were loverly! had crushed corriander seeds and a teaspoon of honey with the onions, stock & bay leaf which gave it a greek twist.

SFG I posted a receipe last week for pork steaks with orange & star anise which was simple and very very nice.

Cheap cuts of beef taste wonderful in a SC stew/casserole as they have all day tenderise. Also don't be frightened of following a recipe with subsituted ingredients or just leaving things out to suit you both.

Whole chicken in mine, sat on a bed of carrots and a splash of water. First time for whole chicken, hoping to get 3 meals for me and DS out of it!

Hi, i am hoping to do a whole chicken in mine today but the chicken is still a little frozen! Does anyone know how long will it take in the sc? Hoping it will be defrosted and cooked in time fore dinner tonight at about 7-7.30?

Turkey broth, using the two leftover turkey legs from christmas, with red lentils, parsnips, carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, herbs, and spices.

Feeling ill, so hopefully will make me feel better! :D

Sausage, bean and lentil casserole/stew kind of thing! Just threw a load of stuff in the pot, but it smells gorgeous :)

    Hi
I know this sounds stupid but how do you cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker? I hear a lot of people raving about how nice it is done this way...what do you think the main difference is and do you cook it in stock....half way up, all over, turn it upside down in the middle?!!
Thanks everyone...maybe by time the kids are all married I'll be able to pass on these tips to them and sound a lot wiser than i am without them knowing! haha

My favourite way of doing chicken in the SC is to slice a couple of lemons and stuff them in the cavity. Slice up some garlic cloves and put them under the skin. Grind some sea salt over the top. Put in to the SC and turn on. I usually put it on around midday for 5pm dinner. No need for any stock or anything.

Today we are having mushroom and leek risotto.

I fry off some garlic, onion and leek in olive oil and butter (have used veg. oil and marg. and it has been fine). Add risotto rice and coat with mixture. Chuck in the slow cooker. Roughly cut up chestnut mushrooms (or any you have hanging around) and bung in. Pour on veg. stock (follow instructions for amount on rice packet). Turn on cooker and bobs your uncle.

I usually just chuck in as much as I have, as long as it will feed my brood and I can have a meal for the freezer or lunch tomorrow I am happy.

This is also great if you have some chicken left over from a roast. I usually chuck in a handful or 2 if I have and put in chicken stock rather than veg.
