If OH likes pork when tender, I'd recommend putting in a pork joint with BBQ sauce. We make Jamie Oliver's but bottled would do fine too. When it's cooked, it should be soft enough to pull apart with two forks-forming pulled pork, an american favourite. can be served with rice or jacket spud. If we are entertaining I make corn bread and serve with candied carrots. Nom nom nom!

how do i make bbq sauce? i have a pork joint out defrosting for tomorrow so mightaswell try it if i have the bits in

Thanks MLZ, I'll have a look at your recipe- sounds lovely!

In my slow cooker is vegetable chili (mince was in freezer and couldn't be bothered!)

    INgredients:

    half green pepper
    2 cloves garlic
    2 onions
    1 tin baked beans
    1 tin kidney beans
    1 tin tomatoes
    splash worcester sauce
    sprinkle mixed herbs
    dried chili seeds
    1 sweet potato

I bunged it in, smells great. Haven't dined yet though. DH is making a bed for DS, and can't put him to bed til its done!

In my SC today, what I call '12 hour Stew'...... as the title suggests, consists of Shin of Beef, onion, sweet potatoe, normal potatoe, parsnip, mushroom, carrot, Tomato Ketchup, stock cube, black pepper and 3/4 pint boiling water. Cook on Low for 12 hours, and just mix up dumplings to drop in for the last half hour. Absolutely gorgeous... the flavours all intensify being left to cook for that length of time.
    keep smiling,

I did a lovely big piece of brisket in mine yesterday, which was great with gravy and veggies!
Today we had the leftovers made into stovies, yum!

I usually use at tin of Homepride BBQ sauce! But i use mine for BBQ ribs, I just place a rack of ribs in the sc with a tin of Homepride BBQ sauce and let it cook. Serve with potato wedges and corn on the cob! The meat is so tender and juicy and it just falls off the bone. The juice and sauce leftover in the sc i use as dipping BBQ sauce for the wedges. Yum! :)

    Hi
I know this sounds stupid but how do you cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker? I hear a lot of people raving about how nice it is done this way...what do you think the main difference is and do you cook it in stock....half way up, all over, turn it upside down in the middle?!!
Thanks everyone...maybe by time the kids are all married I'll be able to pass on these tips to them and sound a lot wiser than i am without them knowing! haha

Well i done this for the 1st time today and it was yum! I read you don't have to put any liquid in but i did. I place the whole chicken on a bed of carrots and a little chicken stock and let to cook for 5hrs 30mins on high and it very moist and lovely! I placed it chicken breast side down as i read it keeps the breast moist and it was def moist! I have enough left over for chicken sandwiches for lunch and a chicken stir fry noodles for dinner tomorrow night! Fab! :)
