Just a quick question, I am going to try my first whole chicken on Thursday. My new slow cooker (Morphy Richards) cooks a bit higher even on low than my last one. Do I add water or not? If so how much?0

I'd put about an inch or two of water (preferably stock) in the bottom - are you cooking it alone, or with vegetables? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

ah i ended up putting a gammon in mine with about a little bit of apple juice put in on high for about 2 hours.
Then put some honey, mustard and chilli glaze on it with some sugar.
left for a little while longer, and then bunged in the oven for ten minutes before serving.
Was delicious. Have honestly never had as nice a gammon ever.
just fell apart when cutting and so soft.
Sure there nearly wasnt any left for dinner as i kept picking at it when waiting for the roasties to cook!
none left for sandwiches though.....ooops!Barclays: 3900/4200

Pork with orange & star anise in mine today.
Browned pork steaks, put in bottom of SC
Gently fry chopped onions to soften, add 2 tbsps flour then slowly add stock (400 mls)
then add 1 orange rind and juice (mine got a good splosh of orange juice)
3 tbspns of plum sauce (mine got sweet chilli)
2 tbspns of soy sauce
2 star anise (can do 1 per person but don't let anyone try and eat them!) can use a cinnamon stick instead.
pinch of S&P
bring to boil and pour into SC and ensure pork is covered.
SC turned to low as we won't eat until about 7/8pm tonight
to be served with mash and green vegs
first time for this receipe so I'm really looking forward to it0 -
