I made a pork casserole using the pork cheeks from Morrisons - didn't tell anyone what they were until afterwards!! LOL.
The casserole was very tasty, added dumplings 2 hours before it was finished.
    Pork - cost £2. Reduced casserole pack (was £2) cost 35p. Reduced spring onions - 15p. Casserole for 4 - £2.50.
  • I have pork shoulder joint in mine today. Going to cook on low till aboout 4.30 then if I can get it out on one piece shove it in a hot oven to see if I can get crackling, probably wont work but worth a try.

There will be plenty left so will do for Sunday dinner tomoorow as well and I may eek a couple of sandwiches from it as well!

I don't know if this helps, but I made a steamed sponge the other day, and used one of those flexible mesh things designed for cooking oven chips on - like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Quickachips-oven-proof-chip-basket/dp/B001K2YBHU to get it out (you know how hard pudding bowls are to get out when they are cooked)

I'd put it in under the joint so it would support it in one piece when it's time to get it out.

Re the crackling - try removing the skin from the joint and lay it on the mesh to crisp in the oven.

Has anyone tried cooking 'sous vide' in a slow cooker (putting the food in a vacum bag and cooking on a very low temp in a water bath, normally @ 40 degrees, which I suspect is cooler than most slow cookers)

Just chucked carrots, parsnips, leek, garlic (love cooked garlic so lots of it), onion, peppers, and I think some sausages in a sausage casserole packet mix (freebie from work).

Edit just discovered that beloved boy didnt put all the mushroom in to breakfast so chucked the last of those in too, and contemplating adding a tin of baked beans as the packet suggests.

A H U G E chilli made with just 800g of mince and bulked out with black beans, borlotti beans, tomatoes and lentils. I'm starting to think I may have bulked it out a little too far as it is very nearly at the top of my 6.5litre slowcooker and I'm not sure how I'm going to stir it.

Last night I did a sausage casserole, a new family favourite! Finding something everyone will eat without moaning is amazing!

I used 12 sausages (£2 from Asda), 2 small onions, 1 tin of baked beans, 2 tins of chopped tomatoes,2 oxo cubes, dried mixed herbs and a splash of worcestershire sauce.
I chopped the sausages in to bitesized pieces(I think this made it go further, rather than using them whole!) and placed them in the ceramic insert of my sc with the sliced onions. I had the oven on ready to do some baking, so I put them in there to brown for 20 minutes, I then added the rest of the ingredients and put it on low for about 4.5 hours. It was delicious and there was loads of it. I served half of it with mashed potatoes and have frozen the rest. There are 4 of us. 2 adults an 8 and a 10 year old.
    Easy peasy!

Forgot to mention, I stuffed a quarter lemon up its cavity, along with a whole head of garlic.
