Have any of you made a curry in a slow cooker before?
Am going to try it 2mro and wondering if anyone has had any success/disaster trying it?

I've made lots of curries via the slow cooker. Generally if it's fresh meat I'll brown it first before adding the spices etc. After then it's no different to making stew in the slow cooker really. One tip if you are making it from scratch is not to add yogurt until right at the end I found.

I must admit that most of the time we make curry using leftover meat from the sunday roast with ready made sauce - sorry :o. Bung it all in the cooker for a couple of hours and it's magic. If there's not enough meat then adding a couple of finely chopped potatoes to the mixture is very nice. Usually they don't need cooking first if you get the right type (only once have they been a bit hard by the end).

I'm doing a beef casserole in my SC and it smells divine I have to say. Is it sad that I'm looking forward to the school run so that I'll come back to the lovely smell of casserole in the house or do I need to get out a lot more?!!! :)

pigs cheeks - very cheap even from Waitrose.
I will then take them out and put them into a stir fry.
The meat is the best pork ever.
  • Dug the SC out of it's hidey hole for the first time in almost a year. Probably last time I used it was when reading these boards :o So in it today is a sausage casserole. Enough for 3 of us to eat tonight and and freeze some for a later date. Need some comfort food as can feel a cold coming on :(

huge turkey leg with passatta, a few herbs, the onion 'salad' from an indian takeaway, 2 carrots 2 celery stalks and a courgette. it's quite bland so it'll probably make 2 portions chilli and 2 portions moroccan flavoured stew/tagnie thingy.

  • Can you cook a fresh turkey crown in a slow cooker? I only have one of those small portable oven things so don't think one would fit in there. I've cooked a whole chicken in a SC before (7 hours on low), but never tried a turkey. There's only going to be 2 of us, so was going to buy a 1-1.5kg turkey crown (and turkey slices from the deli as back up ;)). How long would you cook one for?

    Thanks x

I did a beef stew, with red wine, and dumplings in mine yesterday.

Still got some, so will reheat. Need warming up in this weather.

Found a great butcher on our 'high street' - he's new, and gets most of his meat in as carcasses (so good source of bones for the dogs :))

2kg of shin for £9 sounded too good to miss, so that's in mine today - should get 3 meals for 4 from that, one tonight, and the rest can go in the freezer.....

Yesterday I had chickenlegs with creamy honey & mustard flavoured sauce from a jar - very welcome when a normal 1 hr journey took 3 hrs, added a rice boil in the bag & sweetcorn. so little effort required :)

Tomorrow is chilli con carne probably served with garlic bread & dollop of sour cream.

Over xmas period I'm planning a lemon sponge cake and maybe some mulled wine - although not on the same day!!
