Yesterday I made a sausage and baked bean casserole using a packet, naughty naughty I know, just added cumberland sausages, onion and a tin of chopped toms, and one of baked beans. To add an extra zing I put some left over Chorizo in it. Was really really filling and very tasty.

Tonight I'm making Moroccan lamb with apricots, honey and almonds. Added an onion, garlic, cinnamon and a few other herbs. Veg I've added is carrot, butternut squash and onion. I really can't wait to tuck into this as it's very different to what I've usually done. Serving it with spicy Moroccan style couscous. Yummmm

    NEWBIE ALERT!:eek::eek::eek:
    My first attempt!

Mixed cubed veggies and potatoes and some cubed beef with stock and added herbs.
The stock mixture comes about 2 thirds up the meat etc , does that sound OK?

    It seems too simple:rotfl:

You don't need too much water in as slow cookers don't lose any moisture, but it'll still turn out a tasty dish. Also watch out for the potatoes. I can never get then soft, despite putting them on the bottom so I always boil them for a bit first. Tell us what you thought of it. :)

Just had my Morrocan delight, and it was BLOODY GORGEOUS!!!! Will definitely have it again! Nice, sweet, a little spicy and perfect for the winter with Christmas coming up.

Thanks,it was delicious and so so easy! OH enjoyed it after clearing some snow tonight.
But as you say I had a bit too much water so I now have some gravy to freeze too :)
It was weird peering in at it (not lifting lid!) watching it change into a tasty casserole.
The potatoes were fine, they were smallish new potatoes and were just right.Beginners luck maybe:rotfl:

Next is beef chilli and then parsnip carrot and bacon soup:T:T:T

Sorry but I know how annoying newbie questions can be so I thought long and hard but being a follow the recipe to the letter freak I am stumped and also I cannot get out to buy ingredients today

So I thought I would be daring and throw in what I have but not sure it will work ok as I havnt used a slow cooker many times.

I have 4 thick pork chops which I will flour and season and brown off
    onions
    peppers
    apples
    herbs
    oxo
    tin sweetcorn
    peas

I dont have a lot else but any suggestions I can go and look and see if I have anything in the store cupboard but I dont have any other fresh bits. Oh and as its getting on how long on high will it all take. I also seem to have a blank wall when it comes to adapting things so I just go to pieces but I am determined to crack this and use the slow cooker more.

    Hi,
I know that for most of my savoury recipes,it's advised to brown the onions and veg first before adding to the SC.
    I don't know how long meat takes,as I'm a vegetarian,but a veg stew takes 6-10 hours on Low.
You'd want to put in enough liquid to almost cover the meat and veg.You have to be careful not to put in too much liquid,as the liquid doesn't evaporate and the juices can end up too watery. Also,if there's too much liquid in,it can 'spit' over the edge.If you're going to use anything from frozen, defrost it first before putting it in the SC.

    HTH.

I've just put another Christmas Pudding in mine. It'll be done in six hours.

    Monday:
Cheats sausage casserole - brown off 4 sausages and add jar of sausage casserole sauce, turn on to med and go to work. return home cook peas & tinned pots and serve:)

    Tuesday:
Lean gammon kettle of hot water - turn on to med and go to work, return home cook real potatoes & veg, slice gammon and serve.

So nice having a hot meal ready when I get in and it means me & fella can eat seperately if he is late in without messing about.

Well I just went for it and also added some herbs and a sprinkle of stuffing mix for flavour ....

I will just have to watch the liqued level as so many conflicting instructions and have put it on high for about 4 hours.
This a big step forward for me :j

I have to say, touch wood, I haven't had a bad meal from a slow cooker yet. I think there is a lot of leyway before the taste is affected.
