    Water!

Our lounge bay window which isn't double glazed had ice on the inside this morning as it was -11 last night.

I filled it 3/4 full using 2/3 cold water and 1/3 boiling water from the kettle and turned it on high.

It is unbelievable how much heat it is kicking out, it's de iced the windows, kept me warm whilst I am on the PC and it is costing less than 1p an hour according to me smart meter.

    ;)

It would have been better if I had food in it but I forgot to take something of the freezer this morning and I don't like defrosting meat in the microwave as it always tends to start cooking it.

Oh dear!:o You could add some cinnamon to it & it'll at least smell nice? Really good idea to defrost the windows, though! :)
  • Cooking mini xmas puds in the slow cooker today - not sure how long to leave them tho. (asked about this on a thread on the christmas section, no replies yet - LOL)

Got me thinking about using the slow cooker for steaming other things - (mi-jardin mentioned spotted !!!!!! - ym yum)

But how do you work out timimgs ?

Not good at these sort of things :o and my slow cooker runs a bit/lot high !!!!!!!!!! just like flikkerty mentioned in an earlier thread.

I've just seen your post.I've also made Christmas pudding in the slow cooker,400ml ones.

The recipe said to add 2 hours to the cooking time and it worked fine (6 hours in all).It was from this website:

    www.thepinkwhisk.co.uk/2010/11/grandmas-christmas-pudding.html

I've done two and I'll do another one this week.I also thought about doing a spotted !!!!!!.

    Have you made one?

    Happy 'baking'.

a whole chicken, a couple of inches water, pepper, mixed herbs, 2 chopped carrots, 2 chopped celery stalks, 1 onion... actually it's not in the slow cooker anymore, we (2 of us) ate about 1/4 of the meat for dinner! and the rest is cooling before freezing in portions with the stock it made. nom nom.

    NEWBIE ALERT!:eek::eek::eek:
    My first attempt!

Mixed cubed veggies and potatoes and some cubed beef with stock and added herbs.
The stock mixture comes about 2 thirds up the meat etc , does that sound OK?

    It seems too simple:rotfl:

  • i have boneless pork leg, carrots, onions, leeks with a veg stock cube and a little water.

i left it to cook on low for 5/6 hours, once the pork was falling apart i took it out and add 1 tb spoon of flour and some hot water, i added 2 pink lady apples and left to cook for 1 hour.

i use my hand held blender on the apple gravy then put through a sieve, and it smells gorgeous
  • Nothing today :( but planning on making up a batch of my bolo/lasagne/cottage pie mince tomorrow.
