  • Well I was thinking of doing overnight porridge in my small slow cooker tonight but it cooks a bit high even on low so what I was thinking was putting it on a timer plug (my kitchen id freezing cold as we have no heating in it) and adding the following:

    1 cup porridge oats
    2 cups milk
1 copped apple (only got 1)
    2 tablespoons of sultanas

And cooking for about 4 hours.

What do you reckon? Last time I did porridge it was overcooked and yuk but that was on all night.

well, its beef stew for us tonight - beef, carrots, onion, swede, chopped tomatoes, beef stock cube, a few gravy granules, paprika, mixed herbs salt and pepper. on high for 1 hour medium for 8-9 hours.

Will be served with potato wedges for hubby and the kids. As im on weightwatchers, i might make some roasted parsnips for myself instead of potato wedges. stew is only 6 points parsnip is 2 points so cant go wrong really.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Last night was a version of braised balsamic beef (I'm really sorry but I cant remember who's recipe it was)
I didnt do it in quite the right way but instead just threw everything in together and left on overnight. It smells devine but looked a little runny so I used a teeny bit of gravy powder to thicken it up. Its now portioned up ready to freeze and the SC is filled with soapy water

  • I did a sausage casserole yesterday and it was lovely and I have a lamb and chickpea madras ready for me when I get home tonight. I did some soups earlier in the week so my freezer is now full of tasty one portion meals that will see me through next week. So it might have been a big grocery spend this week but probably won't need to buy anything for a while!

  • Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me? I usually use my slow cooker to cook chicken thighs for stew with yorkshire puddings one day and then made into a pie the next... My dd has requested beef pie but I'm not sure what kind to get!
My mum usually does it in the pressure cooker so it kind of melts and thats what she likes, but I don't have a pressure cooker so maybe i need a different kind of beef? help! I can only order my shopping online so I cant have a look and compare the packets!

  • Pammie, when I did it in the slow cooker the fat had mostly melted off and it was just falling off the bone. It was so tender that it was easy to pick any remaining fat off before serving. I browned mine off in a dry pan first and drained a lot of the fat off. Let us know how it goes!

  • Braising steak and onions in mine today. Together with a few spoonfuls of gravy granules.
Going to have it with peas and jacket potatoes - must get them in the oven now.
