I have a large pork shoulder in with bbq sauce, onion and honey and when it's done I'm going to shred it for bbq pulled pork. Wish I'd put it on an hour earlier now - I can't wait to have it!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Hi Everybody,
Just a quick question as I am not sure. Can you cook a whole chicken in a slow cooker?
If you can what is it like and also how long do you leave them in for?
I am trying not to use my oven as much and thought if I could put a whole chicken in the slow cooker it would save the oven being on for an hour and a half.

I got a 2kg gammon joint in Mr T's whoopsied from £15 to £7, did in the SC on a bed of onions and carrots, covered with 2 litres of Coca Cola. then glazed with honey and demerara sugar and finished in the oven with roast potatoes, . Delicious, and after DD24, DS22, DD18 and their respective partners had tucked in, there's not even enough left for a sandwich! I do love it when they enjoy their food.
Can I do anything with the leftover cola? Didn't add a stock cube or anything except the base veg.0 -

Hi, I now always do my chicken in the SC as it's so convenient.
I use a huge chicken so it lasts several days. I cook it for 7 hours on low. I don't add any liquid, just a bit of oil on the top with salt & pepper. Although you don't get the crispy top it just falls off the bone literally & you get loads of chicken stock which I normally freeze.

I mine today are a couple of chicken thighs and a drumstick or two, carrots, pots and an onion with a Chicken Casserole packet sauce mix over the top. Put it on medium, although thinking about it maybe it should have been low! Oh well, be very well done when I get home from work...I've been a player in the crowd scene, a flicker on the big screen; All this time I've tried, to walk with dignity and pride.

Thank you to everyone on this thread for all the ideas! Used my slow cooker for first time on Friday, lamb shoulder and it was deelish. I browned it off first then cooked it on low for about 8hours on a bed of carrots and parsnips and a load of rosemary with a little bit of water to cover the veg. So easy to do and was so impressed by the results.
Today I have a beef and ale stew on, can't wait to get home!0 -

Sounds delish. I'm going to attempt to cook lamb shoulder in mine later on in the week. Did you use boned lamb shoulder? I've never cooked lamb in my SC before, so I'm not sure whether it's best to buy lamb already boned, or with the bone left in.

Lamb on the bone is fine. It just drops off when it's done. Lamb done in the slow cooker (with barley, peas, lentils, celery, onions and carrots) is just the best thing ever.0
