    Hi BonkeyDollocks,

Not thick at all, I didn't know whether you could or not.

This post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=8254411&postcount=333 from the 'slow cooker quick questions' thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/271457 would suggest it's not a good idea.

    HTH :)

    Thanks Triticale :)

well the chicken/potatoes concoction was dee-lishous!very yummy and i will definitley make it again. No extra liquid needed at all! Both kids (aged 5 and nearly 3) ate it all and asked for more hubby was impressed too ( i live in a house of fussy eaters so to please all 3 is a major milestone!)

    what next i wonder......
  • I don't know why I only use it when it's cold - Am I the only person who does that ??
I need to use it more, much cheaper than my gas cooker and electric oven, easier too : )

So yesterday was brocolli soup - yum
Today a Gammon joint (Nigella style in ginger beer)
Tonight I'm going to try Overnight porridge (Thank you for the links to slowcookedinblighty)

Tomorrow is farmers market day so will fill up on goodies (inc lots of brocolli to make soup for the freezer), and get cooking.

I'd love to try and cook every meal in it for a month and see how I get on ??
  • New to this forum and just taking a browse. I've used a slow cooker many times, yesterday I was at my partners house and made some beef stew for her tea using my mums old recipe. Got a message back that her and her daughter were "filling their faces" last night and thought it was delicious ! Just got a message now "about to have more of your lovely stew for lunch". Can't get better feedback than that !

Can you put frozen meat in a slow cooker... sorry to be a bit thick but i don't have one but i want to get one

Only as long as you defrost it overnight. We have had lamb for the best part of this week, cooked various ways. This was a leg frozen earlier in the year, and we are still alive.
We made two different dishes in the slow cooker:
Lamb tagine, with carrots, sweet potato, leeks, cinnamon and chopped onions and garlic, all in a chicken and tomato stock - lovely!
Lamb vindaloo, with peas, potato, and loads of spices and chilli - enough to blow Santa's socks off:D
We always defrost thoroughly, and then seal the lamb with the onions, garlic and spices.
We never re-freeze frozen cooked meat of any kind.
We do put the cooked food in the fridge, but always reheat thoroughly on the hob (not microwave) for fifteen to twenty minutes.

another sausage casserole in mine today but a slight variation - the usual sausages, tin of chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, chilli powder, paprika, salt, pepper, bundle of casserole veg. Instead of chicken stock cubes have added 2 beef stock cubes, and this time trying a dash of tomato sauce and some mixed dried herbs. So far smells and tastes lovely and a bit more zingy cos of the tomato sauce i stole a bit just now ;) going to have to be patient and cant wait for tea time!!

Will have it with potato wedges a la 'the takeaway secret' and some homemade bread. hubbys favourite slow cooker dish this hence why i seem to make it more than anything else!
