In mine today some whoopsie Lean Stewing Beef with Parsnip, Carrots, Swede and Red Onion. Hoping to have it all in a giant yorkshire!
  • Hi

Can anyone advise if double cream would be ok in my slow cooker? I've barely used it since I got it so I really need to get to grips with it!! I've found a nice chicken and parsnip stew recipe (sorry can't post the link) but I'm a bit worried when to add the cream. The recipe has it added towards the end.

    Thanks
    Jo :D

Turkey Drumstick in mine today - not sure what going to use it for. Maybe sandwiches.

Just needed to get it out of the freezer to make room for two chickens that I'd bought towards Christmas Food stash.
  • I've just taken out chicken and veg soup/broth that was in overnight, quick wash of the crock and have now put in some beef skirt, chopped red onion and oxo stock for DDs' tea tonight - going to make yorkshires, few roast spuds, sweet potato mash (DD1 loves it) and carrots & runner beans with it, and thicken up the stock into loads of rich gravy! :)

    Hi BonkeyDollocks,

Not thick at all, I didn't know whether you could or not.

This post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=8254411&postcount=333 from the 'slow cooker quick questions' thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/271457 would suggest it's not a good idea.

    HTH :)

in mine is a recipe i found browsing the recipe index - fantastic source of info whenever youre stuck for ideas. ive never done chicken in my sc so thats why i looked.

Ive put olive oil at the bottom to cover, sliced potatoes covered with 2 chopped garlic cloves and 1 sliced onion. 4 chicken breasts on top with another drizzle of olive oil, sea salt, black pepper and oregano. Recipe says to cook on low but my low setting is a bit rubbish so ive got it on medium and will turn it down to low around 3pm.

My kitchen smells divine! The recipe says there is enough liquid coming from the oil and potatoes to make sure chicken stays tender. If i notice it looking a bit sorry i could always add a little drizzle of stock perhaps....we'll see. will report back!

We had leg of lamb in our slow cooker at the weekend, just put it in with an inch of boiling water and left it on low all day, finished it off in a hot oven just to make the fat crispy
