If you figure out who mentioned do say so I can thank them also? I cooked a huge ham in apple juice in the slow cooker this week for the first time too. It ended up in the halogen oven to glaze. The cooking liquid is in the freezer for a batch of soup later.

It was the most tender ham we've ever had :-)

It may have been me, as i cooked gammon this way last Sunday; but there are so many good tips on here, I may have picked it up from someone else.

I do agree that gammon cooked this way is beautifully tender, and the left overs make a fantastic Gammon, egg & chips for a quick Monday supper! The left over 'stock' went into the Sausage casserole I made on Wednesday!

Gammon is also delicious in pineapple juice. Last time I did one I put sliced pineapple on top and poured the juice over then glazed in oven with honey and brown sugar it was beautiful and still have loads in the freezer for sandwiches/meals.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I've still got loads of yesterdays chilli in mine. It always tastes better the next day. I shall have to freeze the rest, as everybody will be fed up by tomorrow.

Bought my first slow cooker today, I've just threw in a load of vegetables and some spices and stock to make a vegetable curry. Is on low at the moment, but will prob move to high later so it can be ready for this evening.

Question: I'd like to add rice to it (is that something you can do?), or is it best to just cook the rice separately?

I'll let you know how it turns out, hopefully it will be nice, as I plan on using the slow cooker alot (fingers crossed, for some good recipes).

Barbecue beef today. I was planning on doing it earlier in the week, but still worried I'm out for a bit too long on a work day.

    Smells pretty good so far.
