    Hi Everyone,

I'm still new to slow cooking

I wondering if anyone can help me? I have a very joint of beef in the freezer that I would like to roast in my SC.

I love beef falling apart when it's in a stew or casserole, but how do I cook it in the SC to ensure that I can still slice it like roast beef without it shredding or coming apart in chunks?

    Thanks in advance ;)

Mine has a chicken stew type creation

    2 chopped chicken breasts
A leftover sausage chopped in two!
    2 chopped carrots
    2 diced spuds
    1 chopped onion
    A tin of toms
    Some mixed herbs

Been on for a couple of hours on high, got another hour to go. If it's watery in about half an hour I'll chuck in a couple of tablespoons of lentils to thicken it up.

I've got a massive spag bol in mine today, its only the 2nd time I've used it! It was looking a tad watery though so I chucked in a handful of red lentils to suck up some of the excess, any idea how long I need to give it for them to have disappeared into it? Its a 6.5L and currently on low if thats any help  thanks in advance!

Chicken curry in mine. 2 red onions, garlic, mushrooms, tin of chopped tomatoes, two vegetable oxo cubes, 8 chicken thighs, jar of LIDL balti, authentic curry powder from the asian supermarket and cooked on high for 5 hours. Served with rice and 3 more large portions for the freezer. Turned out really well.

Hi! Long term lurker coming out of the shadows! Been following this thread for some time and I upgraded my wee SC to the 6.5 Rachel Allen one. Saw a recipe for American breakfast Casserole on another thread and wondered if anyone has tried doing a good old English Full Monty?! ie sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes even bacon? Am going to give it a go this weekend but thought I'd pick your brains first...

I don't see why not. You could put, beans, tomatoes, sausages, bacon, and mushrooms together. It would be like a breakfasty sausage casserole. Perhaps leave out the egg though.

I usually put lentils in at the beginning of cooking. I would turn it up to high, and see if its cooked after an hour, or two.

Thanks Sublime, I've turned it up just now. I think I bunged them in about a hour or so ago, maybe two. Will test it in about 45 mins once the boy has been bathed and bedded, wish me luck!

In my slow cooker yesterday was a sort of Moroccan stew. Diced lamb, lardons, sliced onions and leeks, diced squash, green lentils, chopped dried apricots, cumin, mint, ginger, minced garlic and other random herbs and spices that seemed like a nice idea at the time. Served with couscous, it went down well.
  • probably a silly question....but if i put a chicken into my SC to do i need to add liquid? or just put the chicken in?
