Well I got to page 10 in this thread and am now depressed because if the dribble that constitutes reasoned opinion here is in any way indicative of the views of the average customer service rep in this country, it’s no bloody wonder so many companies outsource offshore where they can.
Whatever the facts of the situation and no matter what the product was or how much it cost, it’s about the principle of good customer service. That so many of you see whipping reduced items off the shelves whilst working as a 'perk of the job' just shows how completely screwed up this country is. Some of the postings almost read as though this practice is considered 'fair play' in retaliation for getting minimum wage... well here's a cluebie, if you don't want to work minimum wage jobs, apply yourselves, get better skills and get better jobs!
I often employ people into customer service roles and I can say for a fact that I would not entertain an application from someone with the attitude of those lambasting the Op on this thread. I will however, take the liberty of printing a few postings off to use in our next bout of training as good examples of poor customer service and belligerent 'can't do' attitude.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

When they are being paid for their time they should not be nabbing things for themselves.I can't believe your moaning about this, its called perks of the job and tbh I don't blame them at all. As long as they are pricing correctly and not knocking anything more of it than they normally would then fair play to them0 -
Must remember to work harder and apply myself then this could lead to me gaining better employment.
Hopefully off minimum wage, as its blinkingly obvious certain people on here seem to think that minimum wage earner equals thick.0 -
But has there been any proof the shop assistant took the cakes to BUY them or that he/she was actually rude to OP?
None at all!
Unless you count the op telling his wife he was going to buy 'the pack of 4 cakes' as proof of anything:rotfl:If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

Minimum wage earners thick? No.
You? Certainly your English comprehension appears to be somewhat lacking, though perhaps that's down to an issue like dyslexia so hard to tell about your intelligence. Here is what I said:
"well here's a cluebie, if you don't want to work minimum wage jobs, apply yourselves, get better skills and get better jobs!"
Please point out anywhere where I have stated (or even implied) that minimum wage earners either a) don't work hard, or b) are thick. I didn't. In fact what you've done is simply read into my posting something that wasn't there - presumably because you have a bias on the matter in question. What I said was "get better skills". That is how career progression works, it's about acquiring more skills to demonstrate that you are ready for a more responsible position.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

before i became a minimum wage earner i had a very good career working for local government, i took an extended career break to raise my children, the hours i work now suit my home life. work in a supermarket there is a lot of opportunity to process to a bigger role, with management training.
i have progressed from a GA to a team leader, set to become a line manager in about 7 months.
lots of different people work in retail due to the hours they open, don't assume just because they work minimum wage they have no career prospects, it could be what suits them.0 -
This thread takes the biscuit and has all be puffed (pasty) out of proportion.....0

I was going to bring popcorn for everyone in this thread, but the shop assistant saw me coming and took it for herself

I'd guess the OP will be back at some point telling us they got an apology and a gift voucher and will therefore feel vindicated.0
