Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 11th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends.
Strawberry, Ballerinacaz, Imademyownluck and Dusty hon - Great to have you all with us and hope you keep posting.
Strawberry - Glad the cottage pie link helped and thanks for updating us.
Dustykitten - How fab to see you over here too! The sticky above tells you the basic guidelines but yes, you can post as often as you like as long as it has something old style in it..
SunnyGirl -
Big hugs honey. Thinking of you all.
Noahs - Hope Noah is better soon and thank you for the kind comment.
Molly - Gosh, hope your midwife friend is OK
Pipkin - Hope you feel better hon
N9eav - I take your point, I guess I think that if we don't acknowledge the good and only focus on the bad then that would be a shame.
Redruby - How exciting!! I hope today goes as smoothly as it can and that you are all in your lovely new home safely by tonight.
Cranky - Awww you poor thing, how do you feel today? And I think crocheting Grumpy a blankie (as they are known in this house) is a great idea. I had a big shawl that my gran crocheted and I used that as a blankie for a long time when I was young.
Csarina - you can change your cookie setting too so you don't time out quite as quickly. Go to the forum FAQ page and it tells you what to do. Failing that, just copy your posts before you press 'send' and then if it vanishes you only have to copy and paste it back.
Noahs (again!) - you don't need to be Goked for your wedding, you have a fantastic dress and extremely sexy shoes so you have Goked yourself and will look stunning.
Well, my little part of Devon has fresh snow again. It went on for several hours and settled on top of the old snow and ice just to make it more slippery out there!

Have to sit and work out last weeks total food spend so I can update the GC.. We had turkey from the freezer with roast potatoes and 3 veg yesterday and will have bubble and squeak from the leftover potatoes and veg with some sausages and a fried egg for dinner tonight. Lunch will be ham sandwiches. My OH caved and bought ham while he was out on Saturday, but we are still within budget for the week I think so I have forgiven him.

My lovely cleaning lady is leaving me and I am panicking already. She is one of those people who genuinely seem to love cleaning and noone but my mother has ever had this house so sparkly in those places that get neglected. She has been offered a full time job so I am happy for her but sad for me! My OH has too much on his plate to pick up the slack and the home help (M - W - F) will only do every-day tasks.
I haven't heard from Tris this morning. And nothing from Pams part of the world either which I see as good news.
I hope you all have a good start to the week. With love and light to all.

Morning MSD, cannot sleep so thought I would see if anyone else was around. All is quiet here.
Have to pack the bags ready for our trip tomorrow........lots of warm clothes, blankets, flasks of hot water etc....just in case!!!
MOnday clean will involve down stairs this week, the rug in the sitting room is a real mess, so I might as well do the whole house including the kitchen floor.
No washing its all done, dried and put away.Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Morning all,
No sleep for me again
Well, going to put gammon in the slowcooker in a few hours as
dh took it out yesterday thinking it was a joint of pork lol- big
piece so some will be saved to make a gammon and cheese pie
on Wednesday.
Supposed to be doing shopping tonight but will have to see how
weather is as it has snowed again here.
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
Hi everyone and welcome to all the newbies. I hope you enjoy it here.
RedRuby - the best of luck for your move today. I hope the weather does not cause too many problems, and that you are soon settled and warm.
Csarina - I hope you have a good trip tomrrow.
MSD - I hope it's not too long until you find another good cleaning lady.
Well, I've not been on here much lately. I keep thinking I've got rid of my nagging cough, only for it to keep me awake for yet another night. It makes it so difficult to concentrate on anything during the day. I also keep shivering despite DH assuring me that the central heating is keeping the house warm. It's probably old age, but I think I shall make an appointment with the doctor for later this week.
We've still had very little snow compared with the UK, and with some other parts of France. We've been really lucky to escape the worst. I can't believe what I see on the news for the UK and can only hope that things get better. I hope you are all managing to keep warm and safe.
OS-wise, dinner tonight will be the rest of Saturday's beef stew with some bubble-and-squeak using left over veggies from yesterday, so it will be a really cheap and easy meal.
We should start moving furniture into our new temporary sitting room later on today, hen DH can start on the room we're using now. TBH, I am heartily sick of all the renovation. We've always lived in houses that have needed 'doing up'. This one is by far the worst, it's in a foreign country, and I don't feel 'up' for it any more! I'm so looking forward to visiting the UK soon, but I can't even plan that properly yet; I'm still not sure when we'll be going but I will have to pin DH down so that we can make a definite plan.
Anyway, enough of me moaning - it's because I am SO tired due to this cough keeping me awake at night.
I hope you all have a good day and that the roads are clearer and life can start to get back to normal over there.

Morning all,
Been a real hot day here. DS1 popped in around 7am, he was off to the city to catch the bus to go and spend the week with DGS. He should be back on Friday & flying back Sunday. DH took DS2 to the airport yesterday and broke down.Overheated. He's fixed it he reckons. We are off to visit his Aunties on Thursday so I expect I shall know then.
Off to the hairdressers tomorrow & then do a bit of stuff at the shopping centre. I have to change some money over to Pound & Euro so if you hear this sobbing noise you'll know it's me.Bingo tonight. Winner of the jackpot last week is bringing a Bailey's Cheesecake so us losers can drown in kilojoules.
RubyHope all goes well with the move.
Moiliere That cold sounds an exhausting one. Lingering coughs are horrible.
 to all the new posters.
I'm having chickpea & lentil curry with HM Lebanese Bread. Let's sweat some more.Just using up stuff in the freezer now. Hope you all have a lovely day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Morning everyone.
Just logged on quickly to check schools are open today. So far they are - we've had a little bit more snow, only about a cm. It is still snowing but it's such fine flakes it's taking a long time to build up.
DS slept through :T woke at 6am which is a little earlier than I'd like but I can't really complain. DD and H are both still in bed.
Not sure whats on the agenda today as H will be taking the car to work - not safe for his scooter at the moment. Need to get stuck into Flyladying again - I wrote a little rota for which room to clean each day so need to drag that out and have a look.
I desperately need to sort out my veggie patch. I have some broccoli and cauli plants that need pulling but can't because of the weather and my early peas I tried to uncover from the snow a little :rotfl: I've got some leeks but they don't seem to be growing all that much, not sure why. I suppose I could sit and work out what I am going to grow this year and where if I get chance this afternoon and take a stock of what seeds I have left over from last year.
Diva - hope Tris and Pam are doing OK xx
mioliere - poor you with your cough. Hope it clears up soon xx
Redruby - wishing you all the best with your move today. I really hope the snow doesn't cause you any problems xx Hope you'll be happy in your new home.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
ooo more early risers. I have been up for an hour and feel wide awake. Today I need to check on 2 oldies who live nearby. I don`t need stuff for myself as I was well prepared thanks to some posters on mse but I`ll go shopping if they need things
I changed travel plans for our hols and booked a train to gatwick as the thought of the car getting stuck in snow was too scary to contemplate and what if there is another dump when we arrive back:eek:. I just realised that I`ll have more suitcase handling to do so am going to get medium sized ones out of the loft. I`m going to have to be extra methodical about packing now as 3 weeks worth has to get stashed away. Well I`ll just grit my teeth and get on with it, never mind different clothes for this that and the other, it isn`t going to happen
Food today. Well ummm, lets see????0 -
Good morning. A bit of sad news to start with as MIL died last night at 11.20pm. SIL & DH were with her and she stayed asleep so it was not at all traumatic. We are all sad but also relieved that she is no longer suffering. Thank you for all your prayers, thoughts and love during this time. You are all angels :A
It will be a busy day for DH & SIL but I'll be here today. They have to get the death certificate & sort out all the paperwork before we can start planning the funeral.
I am going to dust & vac through the house and clean the bathroom this morning. I have some soup for lunch for whoever's here and dinner tonight is potato bake using the rest of yesterday's gammon, peas, sweetcorn and gravy. The trifle that I made yesterday wasn't touched in the end so that'll be making an appearance at some point
Diva Thinking about Pam & Tris xx
RedRuby Good luck today & I hope you'll all be happy in your new home :T

Big hugs to anyone who needs one today & take care outside.0 -
Sorry to hear of your news Sunnygirlx
Hope the move goes ok for RedrubyxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Good Morning
Good Luck for today Redruby - just remember to keep the kettle handy so it can be unpacked first!
No more snow yesterday or last night & a lot has thawed. Both schools are open :j:j will have miserable kids first thing (especially DS who hasn't been back since before Xmas) but by 8.30 the house will be mine all mine:j:j:T
Won't be able to make the most of it today as have so much office work to do but it will be lovely to have some peace and quiet.
Had a good day yesterday, will s&s the bathrooms today & iron the stuff that dried overnight. My kitchen floor is a horror so the stardrops will be out & it will be sparkly (for a while anyway).
Ikea meatballs for tea, need to pop out to the local shop for a couple of bits - wont spend too much-spent a fortune at Asda the other day - 2 weeks grocery budget  so will be very carefull till the end of January - aim for a couple of NSD's this week.
Must get going - have a good day.x
Sunnygirl - sorry to hear your news, nice though that OH & SIL were there - it does make a difference I think.x0
