Thanks to everyone for advice on candlestick substitutes.
Dorastar - I'm sure I've seen items in the paper about people asking for charity donations instead of gifts for birthdays, anniversaries etc.
Rach - congrats to OH
Went to my craft group this afternoon. Felt good to be back to routine again and to be able to get out and about without worrying about the pavements.0 -

Pigpen - really sorry, no boys of that age. Have you tried social services for a welfare grant or something perhaps???
SS initially took cousin round to uncles.. asked him if he washappy to be there, the alternative being foster care.. he said yes.. he lived with uncle from being 8 months old until he was 11 anyway as his mum was too ill to care for herself and in hospital lots.. SS then said ok.. and walked out never to be seen again!Piggers, unfortunately not able to help re a 12/13 year old boys stuff, you do have a big family though can any of those help?
If anything does occur to me then I'll shout.
What are you signed off sick for? Did they say?
I'm the only one with boy children over 3.My friends son did the same with dirty sheets, following advice (from a friend of mine who is the most knowledgable person on the spectrum I have ever met) and 2 ladies on the spectrum suggested a dirty sheet. It's kind of vile, but he has one dirty (inc pee sometimes) sheet left in his bed. It's mad but it works. He pees, deliberately, on things that smell of a strong perfume/fragrance....inc his 'friend' from school who decided to put on some aftershave. The only thing he doesn't pee on if it smells of bleachy/clean is the pool at school. Lovely child. Just a shame his step Dad has a bit of a germs OCD.....not a good combo. Gross things children
Hmmm just one thought RE clothes for the young man, my friend has her nephew at present as noone would take him in, she's getting foster carers allowance for having him, is that worth looking into for the family?
SS aren't interested at the moment and to have foster carers allowance they would have to be registered as foster carers and that takes a minimum of 6 months.. we already checked!
I'll just have a cull on DS2's stuff.. I'm sure there will be something in there he can live without.. DS3 will get new when he grows into that size should he need itLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Not strictly true, because the Uncle has taken the lad in it can be covered under what is called a 'private fostering arrangement'....he is saving the county money, so I would say that they ask the social worker for some support financially. Similar situation re something I'm innvolved in and the family who've taken the person in get £25 per week, not much I know but it helps.
Plus whomever was getting child benefit and/or any other relevant benefits should be switched over to the primary carer.
Also have a chat with education welfare officer at school re uniform grants/help, may be an avenue.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

greenbee bless you that is ages but I bet the person is really grateful to you for itFound out HT is human this morning as she cried at staff briefing this morning as some of the parents had been having a go at her due to her closing the school and then reopening it yesterday. My 40th birthday is coming up soon and people are asking what I want for my birthday. I have asked for an ipod from dh and some itunes vouchers to go with it. Apart from that I am really struggling to know what to tell people when they ask what I want. Truthfully there is nothing I really need or even want that much. I am not materialistic, dont really give a stuff about a new mobile (mine costs £20 and texts and calls). Am also sat here watching news about the terrible earthquake in Haiti and wondering about whether to ask people to give a donation to their relief fund instead. If you were my family/friends/colleagues would this strike you as weird or would you think it was ok? Don't want to offend people but really struggle with asking for stuff, when really I am trying to cut back on all the unnecessary 'stuff' I have. I have felt this way for a while about Christmas and birthdays and all the rubbish that gets bought (no offence to my family) and I do like saving up and waiting for things.
Sorry to ramble on but I am very confused about what to do - don't want to upset people or make them think I'm some sort of weirdo either. Any comments welcome.
Valli - more info please
I've managed to cook & eat supper, and do a first re-write of a paper that is due to go to review tomorrow. Busy day tomorrow, so I can see another late night updating it based on feedback from the other author before it can be let loose for the rest of the company to check out. Hopefully he'll be able to track down the missing data that I need for it...
So not much flying done this evening, although this morning was pretty good. At least it's not getting any worse, and the house is fit for visitors and not unpleasant to be in (a good thing considering how long it is since I managed to get out for more than 5 minutes!). Off to find a last few bits for my paper before I email it out...
