due to illness we now qualify for this, however i used to build computers for a living so dont really require their support and i have all the software that my children need on disc at home, so i do believe you should be able to take off some of these extras and be able to spend more on a better spec computer, surely the computer will be covered by a 12 months manufacturers guarantee anyway?
some people will undoubtedly need more help than us but i think you should be able to opt in

The thing is here, the laptop is for your children to be able to access the internet for research and do simple things such as word documents or small presentations. All of this should be related to schoolwork.

If they wanted the children to also be able to play games needing a higher spec them I'm sure they would have provided for that.

where did i say my children wanted it to play games?? i dont mean for playing games i mean that the basic computers will run extremely slow with 1 gig of ram and the anti virus software will also slow it down to a virtual standstill, the computers also seem "overpriced" by the companies i know they are free to us but the government is ultimately paying for it, and for a 15 inch laptop with 1 gig of ram they do seem a bit pricey,

My apologies....I am not a techie and just thought you wanted higher spec for games. Higher spec to me meant better graphics etc which usually relates to games.

They are overpriced. I assume this is because they have added their cut to the price.

On a different note, I had an email from BLi today, as I had asked them a question on Saturday before I had discovered this great thread. If I ordered from them I wonder If I would get a response so quick when my laptop didn't show!:D

I would say the best deal is from Positive IT, the Samsung laptop with an extra GB of RAM (2GB total)

    Hi,

Is there anything for people who live on their own (and have no partner/children), and who receive income support?

Ordered the Samsung, with a free uprade to 2gb memory from PositiveIT for a friend on Friday. Recieved an email today, and think it's been dispatched, not sure as the message went a bit weird with lots of errors and stuff. lol. Are they still dhl'ing them out, and do they send you a tracking number at all?

Ok it comes with open office, but still cheaper buying ms office than the upgrade, as ms office can be bought for under £45 and the printer I am donating my old one.
