  • To remove Netintelligence, just activate it using the code supplied, then log on and get the uninstall password.

    Hope that helps somebody
  • I rang about the free computers but was told that I dont qualify as I receive working tax credits - I am a low income single mother and get working tax credits because I am on a low income, the government dont allow you to get free school meals or clothing grants once you get working tax credits. I feel I am being penalised for receiving working tax credits, I am only £20 a week better off working and this is how people are treated for not being on benefits. System is wrong. I am glad people have got grants and well done but the system doesnt cover other people on low incomes.

The idea being bandied about by MSE that 'free' laptops and Internet are being provided via the Government is, to me, quite offensive.

They aren't free. They're paid for by taxpayers who very likely work hard, pay more tax than they should have to and don't qualify for election bribes from Gordon Brown.

This is really infuriating. There are plenty of people I know who deserve a little bit back, but don't qualify for this scheme. In the words of one single parent friend's daughter who came home from school a few months ago: "Dad, all the dossers at school are being given laptops and Internet". Last Christmas was the first opportunity they'd had to replace their living room TV with a new LCD model, so they're not exactly rolling in cash or looking down their noses at their peers.

Are all people on this scheme dossers or undeserving? No, obviously, and I'm sure that most people on here who do qualify don't live up to that description - but then, I can't imagine a large number of applicants living frugally, so MSE is the last site they're likely to be found. 888.com might be more to their liking, though.

Back to the point, MSE should at least be honest and use the more truthful term 'subsidised' instead of 'free'.

a good idea in theory, though what about the likes of us, low income (unemployed- JSA only!), and without kids?

Bearing in mind that the computer is issued to children of parents on low income, I presume that you wont need a computer for your kids' homework. There are schemes available to people on JSA that recipients of other benefits cannot get. I'm sure you get council tax benefit and free prescriptions amongst other help, but I don't (my income is £500 per month). That's just the way it is.

Quick question: My niece is getting her laptop on Friday - I ordered it from XMA and I'm just wondering where the activation code is or would be? and what would she need the code for?

    Thanks :)

moving to a part of the uk that doesn;t get free prescriptions(wales) or free uni education(Scotland) ???

Look we all know this isn't the most fair scheme. I personally would have been very happy and much more comfortable if it had been a loan that had to be paid back and accessible to many more low income families.

But at the end of the day there are pro's and con's to living where you do and the status you are in. The laptop schem is the latest one.

Because that's where most marginal constituencies are.
