Received Samsung laptop yesterday, it is fantastic! Positive IT were really fast, ordered late Thursday, and it arrived Monday 12 noon!
Netintelligence was the first thing to be removed, it's terrible, now it is performing fine.
Got the R519 with 2GB RAM upgrade free from Positive IT, well worth opting for, as the software free with some packages is pants, and mostly available free on the net.0 -

Great scheme for people with children who are on low incomes. However when is Government going to help older people to buy a computer. Have heard repetatively on radio and TV that older people are being encouraged to go online and are falling behind. Some of us already have the know how but are on limited incomes/and pensions and can't afford to buy one. It isn't always convenient to use a library and quite often they are booked up.0

I do not qualify for benefits but I have a low disposable income that all goes on household expenses. I cannot afford laptops for my kids.
Where can I get help?0 -

Unfortunately, everone's view of a low income is differnet and a "low disposable income" is not the same as a low income.
Low disposable income may, in many instances, simply be the result of poor money management. Of course it may just as well be due to other matters.
If you have an income that is below that which the government sees as low (which myself and most people posting here do), no matter what you spend to live, you WILL qualify for the grant.
I am disabled but quite young and therefore do not receive an annual heating allowance or many other types of help, although I was able to get this grant. My point is that If you fit the criteria you CAN get the benefit/grant, but if you don't then you're not so badly off as some.
So, as an answer to the question "Where can I get help?" should be Wherever you qualify. Try the Money Saving Expert link below for a benefits calculation:

I have a 13 year old son who is home schooled. I am unemployed due to the recession and meet all the financial criteria. My son would benefit hugely from the home access grant to enable him to do his on-line assignments and Science tutorials at home. Why does the Governement grant exclude him from the scheme?? He is as financially eligible as any of the other students and one could argue that, as he has no access to computers at school, he will benefit at least as much or more than other students. It makes a mockery of the claim that this is to help ALL underpriviledged children or those who are in financial distress. If this was the case, then Home Schooled Children should also be allowed to apply. Lets start a petition calling for this change to be made before it is too late for our children to benefit. Desperate to help my child.:)0

For anyone having problems with Netintelligence, check out kb.netintelligence .com/pages/Category:Netintelligence_Home_Access
Hopefully this should answer your questions, if you have lost your activation code, you will need to contact the supplier of the laptop.
I do work for Netintelligence, hopefully this won't be seen as spam, as I'm not trying to sell, just trying to help.0 -
a good idea in theory, though what about the likes of us, low income (unemployed- JSA only!), and without kids?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0
