Mummy2three - thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. Asked my son if he preferred Windows 7 or Windows XP he said he can use both and to just hurry up and get one ordered!
madforIT - Thanks to you too. I was leaning more towards the Zoostorm one , but don't ask me why:rotfl:
If anyone else has an opinion on what I should do please tell!0 -
I really would opt for windows 7, over xp.0
-
only_mee - I am a complete idiot when it comes to PC's. Why do you prefer Windows 7?0
-
Just because it's the latest operating system, and it would cost about £70 to upgrade to it from XP.0

I've had no problem with NetIntelligence - I've set it differently for dd's user account and it hasn't stopped me looking at anything I want...0
-
I couldn't get the netintelligence to unblock at all - even for the adult setting. I'm not daft, but seeing as even unticking the boxes, changing the settings and alternatively allowing one specific site had no luck, I got fed up.
I uninstalled it and went to download.com for antivirus and a different browser. Now using AVG antivirus/firewall/browser pop up blockers and will use the Microsoft protections if it appears necessary. 10 year old is totally supervised online anyway and the laptop isn't in with her at night anyway.
I have been spoiled by the simplicity of a mac. With that, I just switched it on and it worked. Not so with the PC, but that's just the nature of the beast, I think.

Son can be trusted to not use the sites.0 -
Netintelligence has got the better of me so, i have now uninstalled, my bt broadband offers me both anti virus and parental control software for free, so will be putting these on. My 11 yr old is very resposible using the net, doesn't really use it un supervised and knows the dangers.0

I'm confused... (Doesn't take much, granted
)
What's the problem with NetIntelligence?
Are you not able to use different setting for each user on your computers?
Are you sure there isn't a problem that can be fixed?0 -
It wouldn't accept any changes. At all. So an administrator unable to access any more than an 8 year old (and a system which wouldn't change access levels despite making the changes exactly as per the instructions), isn't particularly useful.
Probably could have been fixed. But I've only got so much patience with Windows. And wasn't keen on spending 45 minutes on a helpline, to probably be told to switch it off and switch it back on again three times (worked in a computer workshop, it usually meant they were buying time).
If it could have been simply deactivated - the way the help suggested - which it wasn't - it would still be on the laptop. As it wasn't and it wasn't strictly essential, it went.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
