    the only thing was tho is that although you get 2 yrs broadband the monthly allowance on my dongle is only 2gb per month instead of 3gb which it seems to be with other suppliers, it should only take a month to try and work out what that means to yuor surfing everyday, my daughter is on it ALL the time and we have had it 12 days now and she is still connected (they disconnect you for the rest of the month i think once you use your monthly allowance)
    the samsung is a really nice laptop tho and all you need to do really is charge it and set this net intelligence and you are away
    I think that is incorrect - the extra 2nd year has the 2GB limit you have described.
  • not sure what the 2gb dongles are like but i get free basic wireless from sky which is only 2gb and i think we all used to be on it quite alot, and we didnt have any probs with speed or beng kicked off after limits i think bb companies just try to sell you higher speeds/downloads to make more money personally or you only need them for downloadng loads of files really quickly,

    anyway my grant letter came friday so hopefully my card is not too far off, just dropping kids at me mums and were off to cienma together for valentines,
    Happy valentines everyone

    On the terminology of GB vs. gb vs Gb.
    b = bits
    B = bytes (1 byte = 8 bits)
    G = Giga
    g = meaningless

    So:
    GB = gigabytes, which would refer to the monthly allocation of data
    Gb/s = gigabits per second, which could refer to a network speed, though broadband can only do Mb/s.

    Though 2 GB of data per month would be fine for email and general surfing, it would soon run out if you got into downloading music (approx 100 MB per album) or movies (a DVD is over 4GB). Software releases and updates can also be large (over 1 GB).

    My pal ordered hers from them on weds & also paid the £30 for 2GB, did you know why it took so long to be delivered to you?? And did you also pay for 2GB and if so did they refund that back to your card??? She stayed in today hoping it might have arrived and i know she is also planning on doing the same next week, so i will inform her what has happened to you..

    HI, initially they said software problems but then they said it had been dispatched but after waiting in for 3 days for it to arrive I rang to be told it was going out later that day but by then I was fed up of their excuses so cancelled the order. I didnt order anything extra.

    This is such a great offer,but I can't imagine what it's cost the govt. I do wish they had opened it out to low income/earning families as well-it does seem so unfair that there are hard working families out there who are very close to the poverty line but can't claim a computer for their kids :( Even if they had given half the amount to low income earners maybe?

    If you are earning LOW income you can get the grant. I earn £500 per month, cannot get Working Tax Credit or income support and therefore did get the grant. I think that it really depends what people see as a LOW income, doesn't it?

    Choices seem split on here between the Samsung R519 and the Toshiba L450D.
    Not sure about networks but it is best to see which one provides best coverage in your local area. Again 3 or Tmobile have been mentioned on here.
    Online suppliers that appear to be rated are XMA, Misco, Positive IT and Centerprise (although Centerprise do seem to have a few supply problems, I got my Toshiba from them within just 4 working days).
    On the highstreet, don't bother with Comet. XMA sell via Tmobile shops and Centerprise sell via Phones4U (but the shops still have to order the computer for you, so the online or freephone order lines are just as quick).
    Hope that helps a bit.
