when i did mine you had to send a form which was available of the website and a copy of the invoice from when you got your laptop and you have to do it between 335 and 365 day after purchase.

sorry not much more help, but if you havent any paperwork then i suppose you could ring them and ask what you can do

Another thing to note is the so called warranty. If you accidentally drop it and a part breaks, then the "warranty" does not cover it. The warranty only covers it if it breaks on its own (a.k.a due to hardware failure.) A recent fault appeared on the laptop and they said that we had to pay something ridiculous like £187 to have it repaired.
Is it true that there is no accidental damage cover under the warranty? Can anyone point me to the warranty information for these computers? If so then I know one 'free' laptop that is about to be chucked away after being dropped as there is no hope of the owner being able to pay for repairs.

AFAIK , under certain scheme, there is an accidental damage cover, only to those applied for when they get the grant. Check your T&C, warranty documents or even better phone them up

And you think a free laptop is going to make people not want to work?

Call me naive but most people arent that fickle.

Why should the government give an incentive to work?

Being on benefits isnt the easy life like most people assume, if your young, old, single, without childen and even most with children what you recieve is barely enough to feed yourself, that in its self is enough of an incentive to work.

Please re-read my posts and the thread before commenting and I think you will find that I have mentioned understand there are people who are unable to work and I have been on benefits myself in the past.
Ok if you want to play that argument Why should they provide free lap tops? people working pays the government tax so it is within their best interest to get people to work.
I found it unfair due to the fact I was on an income lower ( this includes tax credits ect) than they requested to be eligible being a single parent family at the time but because I worked and got the "working tax credits part" I wasn't entitled to it, so basically it says there is no point to working, because I could have got more money through not working and even got a free lap top out of it!! and it's like free school meals, even if your income is lower than those on benefits if you go to wor and get working tax creditsk you are not entitled to them, you have to pay full price, even though you are earning less money how is that fair?!
I would have been much better off not working, because the government make it that way, however I choose to go out and work because I have pride and because I am able to.
I understand some people don't have that option which is fair enough and this was excellent for those people but there are a lot of people out there taking the easy option too, but who blames them when this country is messed up enough to make that the easy option!

They told me that I would need the original paperwork, to accompany the order form from their web site, so I printed out an email of the order that I'd kept handy and they accepted it...

(I think they were very careful to word their stipulations in such a way that most people who didn't plan ahead would find themselves ineligible.)

i agree also, im a single mum with 3 children i work 16 hours a week not alot but with my youngest only at preschool 15 hours aweek its all my time will allow, but as tax credits are worked out i should be able to provide for my children still they give me working tax credits i would be stuff basically with out it, but it puts me over the low income only slightly, i would be also better off working, as i would be able to get the free laptop for my children as i have two children who would qualify for this, but would i give up work to get them, hell no i would rather go with out and feel better for getting out working, i think its great for the low income families getting them, but also feel part time working families with working tax should be able to apply too.
