Hi, thanks I'll be ordering something today, I just have sone questions.
I went onto Positive IT and the laptop with Dual Core seems to be sold out. Although, another laptop has come in its place (I thought no more laptops will be coming in?) Its the Toshiba C650 and it looks sexy
The only problem is, its a Single Core and I really don't want that.
My question is, for the people that have received it, have any of you tried removing the CPU to check if its been soldered down? Some manufacturers (even though I've never come across any) solder down the CPU's so you wouldn't be able to change it out.
Are there any tech savvy fellas here that could maybe check for me, to see if the CPU is removable on the home access packages? This is really inportant on me chooseing the best laptop.
Thanks!
Can anyone help me with this please? It's really inportant.0 -
Why not ask in the techie section?0

I'd advise anyone thinking about paying extra to these companies for more ram to hold off doing so. It would be cheaper for you guys to buy the normal 1gb version, then take the machine on Crucial.com and order the extra ram yourself. Putting it in is a doddle, as it's just a case of taking off the underside panel specifically for access to the ram and sticking the stick in. You really don't need to be tech savvy to do this. These companies seem to be charging the earth for a simple two minute job. If the machine comes with one stick of 1gb ram, it will only cost you £18 or so to buy a second stick from Crucial and pop it in yourself.

Hi, thanks for the update. The problem with the Toshiba is that it comes with a Single-Core CPU and its not a Dual Core like the Samsung. What a waste. They take one good thing and slap it on one, and slap the other half on another.
Marv have you had any luck tracing that motherboard and what spec cpu you can upgrade it to..?0 -
Oh, if you really must have a dual core processor, go for the Toshiba C650 from PositiveIT - already comes with 2gbs ram and a 250 gig hdd.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

I got the L450 a few months ago, i got that because of the superior graphics chip with a plan to upgrade the processor later.0 -

I would say there's not much of a difference when it comes to graphics on all 3 of the machines (the 450, 650 and the 519). However, with both the sammy and 650, you get dual core processors, rather than single, which will make a difference in performance. You also get a much bigger HDD in the 650. It seems both the 450 and 650 have hdmi connectivity. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

there are presently 2 companies ive found selling the samsung R519 2GB. Positive IT have sold out and will not be getting anymore in stock, i think they are phasing it out!
1. Centerprise home access
are selling 2GB at £577.99 paying 49.99 extra
They are selling the 3GB version incl office 2007 for 602.99 paying £74.99 extra
they sell others in samsung too.
2. second company selling samsungs are BLI - Samsung R519 2GB RAM + Mobile Broadband + Free Educational Software
paying 574.00 in total at a 46.99 extra cost.
Which 2gb should should i choose and is it worth paying the extra for the 3gb? I need to buy ASAP as i had the card for a while now.
Thanks
p.s ive had to edit the links as i cannot submit links as a new user
