Just to say well done renovation.girl on being so proactive - love it! Good luck with it all and I'll def be lurking around to see how you get on. Maybe the relationship side of things will get better once other things fall into place? Hope things get sorted with kids as that must be causing you lots of stress.
    Good luck!

    Hello
Im a bit happier today, I managed to land myself a little babysitting job. I worked last night and earnt £40 plus they want me to do a few hours this evening too which should earn another £30-35. I will be using the money to 'live off' as it is cash, for petrol, school meals, and any top up shopping (altho there shouldnt be much needed at all, just maybe a bit of fruit). I can leave my credit cards in the house if I go out and so leave the money in my account to reduce my overdraught charges this month.

I finished the washing - hooray, what an achievement, I must have done 12 loads, its mostly dry and a lot put away. Plus I gutted the bedrooms, all perfect and downstairs just needs a putting things away session, its all clean now but piles of stuff still need going thru. I found one outstanding bill for gas, £150. Can I ring them and pay in instalments, its from when we moved in and didnt register with a supplier for ages (yes, slack I know).

Im popping out for a walk before the snow disappears, plus im trying to walk everyday even if just for 20mins - and iv been CRUNCHING, lol lol

    take care

In this weather 3 weeks shopping is a brill idea. Renovation girl you're doing well and should pat yourself on the back.

Thanks to the very encouraging people on this forum I've cleared up a cupboard, am not buying any more toiletries until I finish the stuff I've got and am going to cook more. I'm sure I'll save a lot of money.
    I went away and now I'm back.:j:j

    Hi Renovation Girl

You will find tons of help on home budgeting, meal plans, and saving on groceries, cleaning products and toiletries etc on the Old Style board - i started on the " love food hate waste" web site - but the Old Style board helped in a lot of ways. Check out the MEGA INDEX to Old Style and there are masses of really good threads as well as stacks of ideas for cheap healthy meals.

Best Wishes for a life changing 2010

  • mini update as iv got to go to bed. things with my dd have improved enormously thank goodness.
got my application for financial assistance with my ou course, fab
had a chat with oh, no improvement here, playing it by ear for now
iv been booked to babysit again on saturday nite so a bit of extra cash
feeling generally more positive. going on a shopping spree tomorrow for some bargains, i will only take cash (£16) which i have had put by, its my pocket money for december, i give my children some for doing jobs but pay myself the same amount every month, its 'cheer me up money' which im going to use to buy as much 'soul food' as i can find. im thinking the free dvds on the counter in charity shops which you give a donation of 10p for, charity shop mittens as mine got lost in november, herbs and spices from the health food shop (u buy by weight and no packaging so a fraction of the price), books from the charity shop, some fresh coffee from the pound shop and bubble bath from wilkos, nice incense, and hot chocolate. im going to save a bit of money for my birthday (september) so i can go out for lunch and drinks with my friends (who do it every week lol)
im really looking forward to my weekend. hope u all are too xxxxxxx

  • hello
i have been very busy getting ready for my course starting on 6th feb, my 'study' was a complete mess. it just needs hoovering and rearranging a bit more and im there.
i have applied to drop my hours at work and so this week is my last full week then im down to 16 hours, and considering my course will entail 16 hours of study per week i think its a good thing even if my finances are about to get a big shakeup.
i opened my brand new shiny ebay account tonight, just waiting for bank account confirmation and i will be away, got quite a pile of stuff to list already. plus i went to a local car boot this morning and managed to pick up a vintage liberty silk scarf for pennies, a burberry trench coat for £1 and posh foot cream for 50p so i will be listing them as soon as im sorted. im in the mentality of the turn £100 into £10k but more along the lines of turn £10 into £1k lol
i have started taking ginseng and i think it might be working (could be psychosomatic as its only been 4 days tho)
got fish pie for tea tomorrow and chicken stew and dumplings on tuesday nite, my meal planning is starting to work as both meals are prepared just got to make the dumplings

im off to bed, i picked up daphne du maunier (sp) Rebecca dvd to watch for 10p in a charity shop, feels like a real treat. saving the pennies doesnt have to hurt does it xxx

edit, thanks gem im going to look at ebay on topcashback now xx

  • i am grateful iv got a job in the current climate so dont get me wrong but im gutted my 'payrise' was performance related and meant to be @ 3.5%, I actually got less than 1% and was one of only a few girls to get it at all. i am sick of carrots on sticks not being delivered. i have genuinely slogged my guts out for this company for a year for this. so im now 10p an hour off minimum wage and would have to work a 40 hour week for a whole year to earn an extra £100 for the year with my 5p per hour rise. inflation is 2.9%, so in effect iv taken a payCUT if we are talking about standard of living. anyway, im going to quit moaning about it and go find another job, watch this space. girl on a mission xx
