Sainsbury's complaint

In all fairness to the OP, my old PC had XP professional and MS Office all pre installed in 2003.
Having got myself a replacement computer, I now use Open Office. It's not perfect and there are problems using mathematical symbols when sending them to my tutor, as the Word fonts are slightly different, but I'm not banging out the sort of money that they want for Word.
And I have looked at additional computers - even at Sainsburys - and been rather irritated by the big signs proclaiming they include the major software packages, this being repeated on the display boxes, only to see on the actual box (which is often kept locked away in a cage out the back, so you don't see it before purchase) that they are only offering trial versions.
But then again, when trying to buy a camera last year, the woman was very reluctant to let me check the contents before purchase (I could see it had been opened, presuming that perhaps it was a return), and it was pretty obvious why when I opened it. The camera was missing the battery, charger, case and instruction booklet. She said dismissively 'oh well, you don't need them, and it is only £119'!
Supermarkets aren't really the best place for buying things costing more than a week's wages, (other than a week's worth of food, obviously).
I hope the OP gets a satisfactory result.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Just a Quick note to say Sainsbury's have indeed accepted that they were in the wrong and we have reached a settlement that is satisfactory to both them and ourselves.
Also I would like to add as a side issue that I at no point feel that I should ever have to answer to people on here who feel they have a right to attack me when they do not know the facts. This forum is a wonderful place for people to help and support people and if the negative people would only use the same amount of time embracing the true nature of the forum how wonderful would this place be? All the people who use this site have ways they can assist others, even if it is just to do something as simple as offer them an e-mail address or web address that will have the answer, down to people who go the extra mile and have people sending private messages so they can help off the forum. I will in spare time be offering my assistance and advice to people on here if I am able to. I will NEVER judge anyone on here as My Lord Jesus Christ is the only person who can do that. I will pray that the negative people on here find it in themselves to turn that misguided energy into helping others rather than belittling them.
Thank you to everyone who did offer true advice. I hope to be able to reciprocate in the near future.0 -
Thank you to the three who sent me a personal message and yes I agree with what all three of you are saying and wish Freddie for one would come on and answer me but I guess he has noticed how wrong he was and is unable to accept it. but lets all move on from this and enjoy the good days that God has blessed us with and please pray for the haiti families and people still awaiting to be rescued0

Omg how did this thread get this far!?
Comprehensive List of Rubbish in this thread:- It was the OP's fault for buying from a supermarket
- PC World employs experts (I'm STILL laughing)
- The OP's problem is with Microsoft and not Sainsbury's (!?)
- The fact that Office isn't very usual on a home computer is relevant
- The fact the OP accepted the EULA for Trial Office is relevent

Dr Scotsman. I had sorted this and post 2 or 3 that gave me the e-mail address was spot on they sorted it and even listeded to the recorded call and agreed i was told it was included. they not only sorted it but went an extra mile. I do think that most of the info you get is good apart from when people go off topic and talk about things like open office as they did on here.
I hope you sorted your problem but please do keep the faith with this site for the most part this is a great site0 -
It is pretty standard for this to come as a trial. I do not think you have a case. But maybe Mr King will look kindly on your email. Good luck.0

Helix ...
I am not sure I agree with this .... I have Microsoft Office ... Home & Student - use it for my work ... which is at home ... how will MS know ... is it not the number of PCs you can have it that makes it difficult for most businesses??

Experts? if there is anyone in those stores that knows what RAM actually is or how computers actually work then its by coincidence. They are just pushed the drivel that more is better. Which is not always true.It downloads additional files and removes the protection
Oddly enough if you install the trial (only trial version available is Home & Student) and type *any* 2007 product key in you get Home & Student - i.e. install the copy of Office 2007 Professional Plus, type the Ultimate product key in and it installs Professional Plus...Sunshine12 wrote: »Surely if they are selling the product, supermarket or not, then the staff should be fully conversant with what they are selling?
Repeating the same point as above - If you need advice, don't buy PC's from supermarket - they are box shifters, nothing more. If you want advice, go to a proper retailer.
On the box it says "for non-commercial use" which means you can't use it for anything you get a profit form.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Because if M$ ever audit you they will kick your !!! - Office Home & Student used for business tasks is just as legit as "MS.Office.2007.Blue.Edition.torrent".
.
No idea what you are talking about .... but doesn't actually matter ... I bought MO Small Business version. Even if I bought the home student addition, then what is the likelyhood of MS knowing that I am using it for work???

I would never expect staff in a supermarket to be-able to answer all my questions on every product they sell - it's unrealistic to expect a member of staff to know every detail about the 100,000 product lines they have...

The point is that the retailer is responsible for what they sell, so their staff should be able to answer questions about the product .... if they cann't then at least find someone who can ....
In this case the OP was told that the PC included MO ... how are they meant to know any difference?
