ok it seems to me your wife asked if a product was on the laptop she was told it was

you get the laptop turn it on the products on there

so wheres the complaint ! be it a trial you got the correct answer to your question

and there's nothing wrong with the laptop so that's why they wont refund you

I think I'm missing something here

if wife asked if software was on PC, and was told YES, and then found upon use that actually it wasn't - there was only trial software installed - then imho that is definitely misselling as the customer was lead to believe the product was on the machine.

The assistant could very easily have said at that juncture, "there is a trial version of MS office on the machine", but according to OP didn't - just responded yes. Dishonest by ommission / or lack of product knowledge I think.

I would take it up with Sainsbury again, but it's all very heresay - her word against assistants etc. What's your expectation of a good result? What do you want to happen to resolve issue?

    There's organised and there's organised.

Afraid it was down to the petrol station on Christmas Eve evening for me again. Wife's De-icer Deluxe pack was all but used up anyway.

Bet it was used up by you trying to find out if it worked on the snow on your driveway!:D

The full version of Office will have been installed I'd imagine....you just need the Key to 'unlock' it.

I just wish People would stay ON TOPIC. As a customer My Wife was told that the computer had Office installed, (and even Sainsbury's have departments hwere staff are trained to sell products from them departments) and it turns out only to be a trial is there a case to be answered?
Prove it, Sorry Maybe she mis-heard what was said? It becomes your wifes word against the CSA in Sainsburys (Did she catch the name?) it clearly says on the box (To be fair every laptop I've seen) that its a 60 day trial of Microsoft Office.

    No case unfortunately

It downloads additional files and removes the protection

You can activate Office by phone if needed. Only optional updates are downloaded if you want them - they aren't needed to use office.

To the original poster if you dont want the home/student version (i.e. its for business) you can still get the OEM version of Office Basic (Word, Excel and Outlook) for 90 days after you gat a PC - its about £100 or about £130 if you also want Power Point (Office Small Business.)

As to Open Office its very good and stable - remember its actually from Sun Computers - its not some mish-mash rubbish. Its every bit as good as Office 2003 which its modelled on though not identical, and its very good.
  • We bought the Desktop from Staples on our business account and it was preinstalled and we got the disc with it but this is MS office 2003 and has excel etc too. this is why we asked if this was also included with the new laptop but as we have not upgraded for 5 or so years we did not know anything had changed and took the sales womans advice.... or my wife did.
Did you pay extra for this, as I also run a business and have had a PC with MS Office installed and the disk. This cost extra. as it did in 1997, and 2003.

Pleas enlighten me as to your route to a supposed free version of this software

Amazing how OP comes on here just like the playground bully, demanding he is right, but does not proffer up when questioned the availability of this supposed free version of MS Office that was installed on his PCs

I await OPs answer to my question so I can obtain the same valued products as I see no pre insatalled versions of Office at Staples
