Its really your wife word against that of the store its gonna be very difficult unless she recorded the convo. I would give up personaly and install OpenOffice. You could try takeing them to court but it would be a hard one to win.0

If I had asked if certain stuff was installed on a computer and was told , Yes, its definetly there, then I would be B***** well incensed if I then found that whatever it was was either NOT there or would only work for a short trial period! Its misrepresentation /sharp practice. You pay the asking price for an agreed spec and, if you don't get it, then I reckon you have every right to be put out.
I would certainly be arguing the case further up the chain of seniority. Don't let them fob you off.ELITE 5:2

maybe I should have went into more detail in opening post. but they tried telling me i was doing all sorts of things wrong and may need to reinstall from discs that came with the computer, i told them no discs came with it and i had to make rescue disc when first started. then they claimed i must have lost a booklet that could have had the sticker with the key on it. etc etc. all indecating they believed the programme WAS included. even the tech guy had me typing things in to look at regedit to find some things out
now I am not one bit tech but do run my own business and my server needs word and excel to work thats why it is such a big deal.
no idea if this open office would be able to work with my server or not but i would guess not, plus as it is open and others add layers to this it would to me seem to be a risky thing to rely on when bank details, etc are used.
for me it is taking me forever to even be able to get this to use the printer that is wireless, never mind getting this and the desktop to work together sharing the same business files saving me having to store them on a stick to swap between whatever one i am on at that time. but for me Honesty is what my business is built on and all I am after here is Sainsbury's to do same. the fact that store, customer service and tech department did not know answer from beginning but only came to conclusion at end seems proof enough that the product is sold misleadingly to say the least. and to ask them to provide what was told to be included as I am not asking for refund is not excessive request0 -

Surely if they are selling the product, supermarket or not, then the staff should be fully conversant with what they are selling?:smileyhea0 -

This is exactly why they don't preinstall office anymore. The licencing becomes too complicated if people buy business use computers through consumer channels (not saying there is anything wrong with this).
If any version was to be included it would be Home and Student and I'm guessing thats what the trial is for. You cannot use this version of office for commercial use.
And i'm not sure what your on about needing to be compatible with a server. Unless you mean Sharepoint word and excel don't have anything to do with servers.0 -

ToZer, whats wrong with being organised for Christmas.
Pleas enlighten me as to your route to a supposed free version of this software0 -

PAH!
i just wet my self a little!
Experts? if there is anyone in those stores that knows what RAM actually is or how computers actually work then its by coincidence. They are just pushed the drivel that more is better. Which is not always true.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Helix ...
I am not sure I agree with this .... I have Microsoft Office ... Home & Student - use it for my work ... which is at home ... how will MS know ... is it not the number of PCs you can have it that makes it difficult for most businesses??
