Hiya everyone,
It's ten weeks since my last post - sorry - so I thought I'd update to let people know how I've got on!
I can't do much aerobic exercise because of arthritis, so I began exercise classes (gentle ones for people with ailments) and two gym visits a week. Unfortunately, I had to stop the classes cos my knees hurt, but I continued with the gym 3 times a week (low impact stuff - exercise bike, hand weights, mostly upper body resistance machines, plus abdomen exercises using a ball - all sitting or lying down).
I've been dieting a year and lost about 2 stone (5 or 6 pounds since my last post). I'd hoped for more, but I think my metabolism slowed down cos I've been dieting so long - and hopefully because I've started to build muscle mass (somewhere under all the flab, lol) which weighs more than fat!
I've been exercising for 6 months now and at last I can see that my thighs and belly are looking slimmer and more defined (although still fat and wobbly - it's a mammoth task, lol)! And I've got visible muscles on my upper arms!:j I know it'll take a while to lose the last two stone and for my body to improve enough so I can reveal more of it, (bare arms would be good!) but I'm proud of what I've achieved so far!
Good luck to everyone who's starting to exercise or is keeping up with it. It's not always easy, we have to be brave - and sometimes we have to force ourselves do it - but the rewards are definitely worth it!
PS. Belated congrats on the job skaps! I'm looking for a job at the moment and I'm starting to feel I'll never get one!
I bet you're over the moon! :T0 -
Hiya redmandarin, well done on the exercise and weight loss, sounds like you are in to a great routine now.
I did all my 3 last week, mostly on the wii step but also had a short session on the bike again - killed my knees! Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -

It's been a few weeks since I last posted . Still continuing with the exercise , mainly cycling and wii active . Went on holiday a week or so ago to Hong Kong and they had an amazing gym and pool there , so did gym every morning before breakfast and went jogging in the park , also did complimentary Thai chi lessons!!
Ive now lost over 5 stone , since september 6th 2009 , was 17st 7lb , now 12 stone 5lb . Ironically i'm still just in the overweight bracket with a BMI of 25.6. Target weight is 12 stone
I feel amazing though , inspired to keep the weight off through continued exercise and continuing doing the G.I diet . I haven't been this slim and fit since i was about 18 ( i'm now 40)
I don't think I ever want to go back to how I was . Don't get me wrong I enjoy the exercise , but need to change variety every so often to stop me getting bored . Next goal is to learn to swim0 -
Well done candles, that's amazing. I've given up weighing myself as I don't have scales at home and it turns out the gym ones are totally unreliable.
They are those all singing, all dancing digital things that measure your height as well so you get your BMI then if you put more money in I think you can get all sorts of other readings as well. I've never once used it where it's got my height anywhere near (lowest around 2 foot 5 and highest 5 foot and I am 5 foot 6).
Anyway so when I was at the doctor's for holiday jabs the other week I jumped on the scales when the nurse was out of the room. GPs use bog standard, ordinary scales with needles pointing to your weight. I was a full half stone less than the scales at the gym had measured me that morning.
So I have stopped weighing myself, I see the nurse every 3 months and I shan't get weighed again until August when i next go.
So basically it's taken me 4 months to lose around a stone. I have probably gained muscle though. I have been steady at 6x sessions of exercise each week but these sessions are 45mins - 1 hour but I do work hard. When i swim it is for 40-45 mins non stop to ensure I get out of breath and my heart rate goes up. The other sessions are group exercise classes at the gym which I find more motivating than gym work.
I have, however, not gone on a diet any more than cutting down on alcohol, bread, snacking etc. This is lifestyle change and not a diet, so weekends are treat time. Henceforth this is why the weight loss is slow.
It does pee me off to hear others and their 4lb loss in a week but I know my lifestyle is sustainable. Within a year I should see good results. In fact, I am starting to see it now, finally after 4 months.0 -
I was on holiday last week, but I did manage to swim twice a day for 5 days so count me as done! Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

Done 7x this week, yay me. :j
Off on holiday for a week Monday and whilst I will be on a boat for the duration and therefore swimming a lot I'm not sure I will be able to count it as 3 lots of exercise. Will let ya know when I get back if I was just dipping in and out or if I thought I got a proper swim session out of it!0
