Ive done quite well this week , went on an hour walk with the dog and kids on Sat , then on sunday went on another walk and did 2.2 miles , as well as doing Wii active mon to sat .

Ive discovered a way to get more out of the wii active , the resistance band that you get with it is pants ( my granny would find it too easy) so I bought a reebok one which gives far better resistance and is also long enough to do the upright rows . I also bought some dumbells and using the dumbells for exercises like bent over rows, bicep curls etc. This is much better . I made some cardboard collars to fit to the dumbells to make it wide enough so I could hold the wii remote . I have noticed that I am getting more toned esp just after a workout . I am looking into buying a bike now so I can go cycling with the kids . I'm looking into a fold up one so we can take it with us on holiday, but want a propper 26 inch wheel rather than the 20 inch ones you can get. I figured out if I used a bike rather than a car for small journeys I could burn an extra 1000 or so calories a week

Tip for working out how much general exercise you are getting

buy a cheap pedometer , I got mine from argos £2.99 , and wear it all day . It will tell you how much you are walking and how many calories you are burning off . Just by going upstairs , doing housework , in the kitchen etc etc , you are burning off calories . You may be surprised how much you are doing ( or shocked if you arn't doing enough) . When you have got a rough estimate of how much you are doing each day , try to up it and increase the amount of time you are doing things, this could be walking the dog , gardening , taking the washing upstairs etc etc . Sitting down or do driving and the calorie counter stands still. It makes you far more aware of the need to keep moving . Set yourself targets to achieve each day , and reward yourself for meeting them.
  • Did my first exercise for this week this morning, 30 minute workout DVD :j Definitely going to try to do it first thing otherwise I spend all day thinking 'I'll do that in a minute' and just not get round to it.
Back on the money saving wagon again!

New week folks, let's keep it up!

candlesrus I think a pedometer would just make me weep! Besides which I swim 2/3 mornings a week and it won't register that.

Done my 1st of 3/4/5 this morning - 40 min swim.

Youd be amazed how many calories you can burn just by being active around the house

This morning I put the pedometer on and have got the kids up , ready for school etc

    went for a walk ( did 2.2km )

pottered about the kitchen , making drinks , made lunch , put the washing away upstairs and Ive now according to my pedometer burnt off 207 cals and walked 5km and its only just past lunchtime

your right the pedometer only monitors what you do with your legs , not your arms for example , but on top of everything else it gives you an idea about just how many calories you can burn off just by pottering around the house ( and being everyones slave ????lol)

If I was to mow the lawn and just carry on for the rest of the day , by the evening time I should have burnt of just as much as if i had gone to the gym and then spent the rest of the morning resting and watching t.v or going on the computer. So burning off calories in this way can be just as affective in fact more so If you just keep your activity level up and spend less time sat down .

Absolutely, you are right and we all know it. But I am pretty bone idle and know myself very well - so I prefer to do 'organised' activity like the classes and swimming. Hence this thread being in existence.

It's all about motivation and living on my own and having no children I do not find myself rushing about for anyone.

Nobody should need organised activity to be slim and stay slim but I sit on my backside every day for work just going round the office a few times during the day, then at night I am not a slave to housework. I really wish I was one of those people who say 'oh I never sat down til 11pm last night after coming in from work at 6pm'. :D But I'm not and I've accepted it.

Thats fine , nothing wrong with that , you have found a way that works for you and thats the most important thing . Good luck with the swimming. :T. I'm going to start some swimming lessons next month so looking forward to that , though a bit nervous

Good luck with the swim lessons candlesrus. It's a wonderful thing being able to swim and an enviable thing to embark on if you missed out on learning as a child.

Hi Bad Weather - so what's stopping the 3rd time?
