London_Girl wrote:No, i don't work for Smile - if i did, i wouldn't be putting down how unhappy i am - would I! i logged in because i had signed up due to Martin's email and wanted to put down what i had found so other people didn't do the same thing. Are you daft?!!
If you had read my message you would have seen that I already made an apology if I was wrong.
The reason for my suggestion was as follows:
1) It is strange that you only registered on the forum today
2) There is no monthly charge on this account - monthly charge is only for smilemore account, and this offer is on the standard smile account.
3) Your messages suggests this in not a good offer anymore - as far as I can tell nothing has changed so you why would you be suggesting this is not a good offer anymore?
4) It would not be the first time someone has registered a new account and posted something negative about an offer.
Creditability on this forum is built up by multiple postings.
As I now know I am completely wrong, welcome to MSE and enjoy the bargains just like the main other users.
As for Smile, as I have sent them a secure message from my account - I will post back the reply I get from them.0 -
The link to the free bottles to me to the account for which i have to pay. I have sent several secure messages to Smile about getting the free bottles - to which i got no sense in response - nor any actual answer. Hence i phoned them today, to be told that i would get an email in October and that this was so everyone got the voucher together - for which i saw no reason.
I just think that you are a v suspicious person. i regularly post on other chatrooms where at least people welcome newbies0 -
I've been a Smile customer for a couple of years now, and am very happy with the service provided, in fact I'd say it's excellent. I'm on the standard Smile account, so no monthly fees, one of my local Post Office's is less than a two minute walk, so I can quickly and easily make payments to the account (without charge) and withdraw money (without charge), though also in the same area there is a Co-Op cash machine also. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

This is a friendly forum, and everyone is welcome, you are not forced to stay or reply, though it would be nice if you weren't so uptight.
The link takes you to the non-fee Smile account: http://www.smile.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Smile/Page/smView&c=Page&cid=971088186700
When you apply it askes you which account you want.
The T&C of the wine offer is clearly stated, can you not understand why some people would find your first post rather suspect?

Sorry, yes I am suspicious but unfortunately you have to be especially when we are all "taking something for nothing" from these companies. Ok, they are big companies and can afford it, but it wouldn't surprise me if employees of some of these companies post on MSE to try and put people off to save money!
How am I to know you post on other chatrooms? All I can see is that you are a new poster on MSE.
Anyway, back to smile...
Thank you for the detailed explaination.
I still don't understand why you think you need to pay for the account. I have a screen capture from the website with details of the offer and it just says:
"Get 12 bottles of wine with a smile current account*
* wine offer terms and conditions:
Wine qualification upon first credit transaction of £1500 minimum by 1st October 2006. smile wine promotion ends 6th August
2006. All current account applications must be applied for by 6th August 2006 and opened by 3rd September 2006. Wine
redemption code will be dispatched by no later than 31st October 2006. A delivery charge of £4.99 is payable upon order of
wine. This offer is only available to customer who are residents in the UK. This offer is not open to existing current account
customers of smile. smile has the right to withdraw the offer at any time."
It is only the smilemore account you have to pay for, not the standard smile current account.0 -
It is getting lonely in this thread - did anyone else go for the offer?
Anyone heard anything from Smile?
I have sent them 3 secure messages from the website but no responses!
I would have considered staying with them, but so far customer service appears to be non existant so don't think I will bother.0 -

I just opened account and the required £1500 is being transfered into the account today.
Will they send me the wine voucher automatically or will I need to hassle them for it?
After getting a response from Smile saying that the code was sent via email when the account was opened and that it must have been deleted by my junk filter (!), I asked them to resend the code. I then got a further message stating that a number of terms and conditions need to be met before the code will be sent, the main T&C being the £1500 deposit. If I meet these terms, the code will be sent by Sept 30th.
If it is not received by the end of Sept, I will chase further.0 -

Eventually smile replied to my secure messages and said the same thing - vouchers will be sent by email by end of September.
I guess we just have to sit it out and wait now.
I just hope they don't close my account while I wait as the balance is currently zero!0 -
Aren't the terms of the account you either have to have your wage (can include benefit) paid in monthly or you have to credit the account with £1,000 per month. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Yes, this is from T&C's:
"1. Account basics
1.1 To open an account you must:- be a UK resident and over 18
- receive a regular payment (e.g. wage, salary, pension, etc) or at least £1,000 per month into your account "
