  • Just been reading through the posts and panic set in when I read some where there is a £7.50 monthly charge. Checked my acount and its been ope for over a month and no charge. Cant remember reading when I set the account up there was a charge.

Is this a panic over nothing?

The £7.50 charge is for the Smile More account.

The standard smile current account which is linked to the wine offer does not have a monthly charge.

    i have recently signed up for the free current account (£7.50 is just for smilemore accounts) paid in £1500 in one lump sum and asked smile by secure message if 1) i would have to pay £1000 in each month as per t&c's and 2) when will i recieve my free wine...the answer was exactly as follows;

"The wine voucher will be sent out by email by the end of October. You only have to pay in £100 a month if you don't have a regular salary or pension going into it. As long as there is some sort of regular payment going in to your account, it doesn't need to be as much as a £1000."

The debit card took about a week to arrive, the cheque book and pin number a few days later. Followed by a courtesy call yesterday from a friendly 'co-operative bank/smile' assistant.

    so far so good! :j

So they are contradicting their own T&C's. Ummmmmm

I think I will go for the safe option of putting in £1000 next month to make sure Smile don't try and use this as an excuse not to send the vouchers...

I deposited £1506 on 19th July. I removed £1500 on 20th July (I needed the money back into my normal account!!). I got paid 10p interest on 21st July and 1p interest on 21st August!!

However on 29th July I chased the wine voucher by "secure message". They replied on 1st August saying:

"As long as you have followed all terms and conditions for the wine offer you should receive your wine email by the end of August"

Direct and to the point. So I am just sitting and waiting!

It is now the end of August - did the voucher arrive?

Nope! I will leave it a couple of days before getting back to them, however at the time I thought you just had to transfer in £1500 and not use the account regularly. I might put £100 in on payday which is the 15th of the month and say that I had to remove the £1500 for my car insurance which is sort of true although that was nearer £350 than £1500 lol!

I am a very suspicious person so I would take the advice about £100 carefully. We have now had 2 brand new members to MSE posting information to this thread as their first posts to MSE. Nothing is known about these 2 new members so there is always a very small risk these are Smile employees trying to save the company some money.

To guarantee the vouchers I would stick to the account T&C's which you agreed to when you opened the account.

If Smile said you would have the voucher by end of August, then personally I would contact them today!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Without giving too much info out about myself as i prefer to keep my private things private, i'm certainly no smile employee as i actually work for a large university in the north of england. i'm not one for getting involved with chat on here but reading so many 'ohh they charge you £7.50' posts has prompted me to make an appearance, mainly out of frustration because they are all so wrong if they read the site properly!! I can only post what has happened to myself in the hope that its of some use or advice to someone else out there...of course your own free will and judgement will determine what you take from what i've said......If i don't recieve my free wine vouchers by the end of October i'll certainly be back in here saying my piece but until then i'll happily wait on smile's word and live in trust and reserve judgement!

Give me chance for christ's sake....if all new MSE members get shot down at their first posts they may just walk away before theve started! at the end of the day, any advice is only advice, how you use it is your own choice but without it you only only have your own opinion to guide your decisions!

anyway, sorry to go on a bit! probably why i dont post that often!

Thank you for posting your comments. I am really surprised this thread is so quiet seeing as though this was linked to in one of Martins weekly emails.

As you correctly say these forums are public places where by anyone can write what they like (with in the rules of the forum).

As I mentioned previously when attempting to get special offers like these from banks I believe it is very important to follow the T&C's very carefully. That way if they work out you are not really a new customer they still have no excuses for not paying out the wine voucher.

In your case the secure message you have from smile is ok as long as you keep it, but for another forum member to quote a posting on MSE as evidence wouldn't get very far in court!

Again with out giving any information away the reason why I am suspicious is that I am currently going though an Identity Theft problem with someone using my credit cards and name/address to apply for bank accounts/loans! Isn't the internet a great place!

Welcome to MSE and let's hope Smile sends us all our wine vouchers soon!
