All well and good telling people WEP is crap and they should use WEP2 , but if their equipment doesnt support WEP 2 so unless they keep buying newer and newer hardware all the time both laptops or wifi cards and routers, it is far too expensive to keep buying a new laptop cause the wifi card is useing older security.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Stolt I'd just ignore espresso. I've come to find there are loads of disrespect people on this forum, that's the problem with unmoderated sites. However, if it was moderated then it would probably be moderated to heavy handedly.
Also it's in the nature of some techys Arrogant twonks they are to act like that. I can safely say that as I'm an IT Technician by day and have to deal with some just like that.
Anyway. Only thing that espresso is right in saying is WEP is crap you need to change it.
The box you've given the image too is just the settings on your laptop. Changing those settings won't change the router.
This may get complicated. Do you have any tech friends who can do it for you?
Looking at that box I assume you're using Vista?
Click Start, in the search field type CMD, then click the cmd.exe that is found.
In the black box that appears type IPConfig. Note down the numbers next to Default Gateway. That's the IP address of your router.
Now in IE or Firefox if you use that, in the address bar type the IP address. Probably is
192.168.0.1
Then you should have access to your O2 router. You'll need to use the manual to and it should tell you where the WIFI security settings are.
May look like this
http://media.photobucket.com/image/o2%20router/purplelime/router.jpg
Then set the security to WPA2 and give it a long password with numbers. Cracking a long key can take days so most people don't bother and move on to a less secure network to hack into.
Then vista should pick up the changes you made to your wifi and should see the wifi access point again. When you try to connect it should ask for the password and allow you to connect.
My old netgear IP address was 192.168.0.1 but the latest router from O2 is 192.168.1.254, your method confirms this0 -

Sorry I have to disagree. You're blowing it out of proportion completely. WEP *is* insecure by any security standard, using WPA or WPA2 will mean that it would take your average wannabe wireless hacker MONTHS or YEARS (even using cuda gpus) if the passcode is long enough and includes non-alpha numeric.
You do not need to KEEP upgrading, just upgrade the once, that is enough and WPA2 will be strong enough for years to come.
Take security seriously, if you dont, someone else will take it seriously for you instead
If you insist on using WEP, just remember that anyone with a netbook can be using your network within and hour, sometimes minutes, it's that easy to crack.0 -
Wind your neck in, I'm not having an off day at all. Anyone who can type on here can read, even their own credit card statements when they actually receive them, not months later!
You still here? I reported the transactions back in October, which is when the statement was produced. I didnt leave it months as you suggest.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
stolt, have a read of this, whatever passphrase u use make a note of it, dont worry about espresso hes just having an off day, what firewall do you have, any other questions feel free to ask

hi, couldnt get that link to work, it was saying my session had expired.
thanks
yes its the 02 site, this is what it says
To secure your O2 wireless box follow these simple steps:
Open your browser (eg Internet Explorer) and in the address bar enter '192.168.1.254'.
From the first screen select the 'Toolbox' from the menu on the left.
On the main section of the screen you will see a section called 'User Management'. You need to click on this option.
The 'User Management' page will display all of the users you have set up on your O2 wireless box. The standard set up we have sent you will only have the user name of 'Administrator'. This will be the current default user and will give you access to make any necessary changes to your O2 wireless box. To allow you instant access to the O2 wireless box there is no password set up to block unwanted users and protect the settings you have made.
Below the 'Pick a task;' section click on the option to 'Change my password'.
You will now see three fields on the screen that are currently blank.
In the first field, 'Old Password', you do not need to type anything as there is no current password.
In the 'New Password' field type in a password that you can easily remember. There is no limit on the minimum number of characters, but we recommend you use a password with between 6-12 characters.
You now need to repeat the same password you chose in the 'Confirm New Password' field.
When you have selected and typed in your new password in both fields click 'Change Password'.
The settings will then be applied to your O2 wireless box and then you will be asked to enter your user name and password to continue.
Your user name is: Administrator (you must use a capital A) Your password is: the password you chose.
You will have the option to select 'Remember my password'. We do not recommend you use this option to ensure your password remains secure to only you and help prevent unauthorised access.
Click 'OK'.
The O2 wireless box will now register your new password and bring you back to the 'User Management' screen.
If you are asked to enter your user name and password again then please check your password and try again.
Forgot Your Password
Should you forget your password to access the router do not panic there is a way to reset it. You will need to use of a paper clip or similar tool.
When you look at the back of your O2 wireless box you will notice a small hole on the right above 'Reset'.
Insert a paper clip into the hole until you feel the click of a button.
Hold the button down with the paperclip until you see the power light on the O2 wireless box turn red.
Remove the paper clip and let the O2 wireless box return the full power. Once all of the lights have come back on it will be set to how it was when you first received it and you can follow the steps again to change the password.0 -
just an update i have sent several letters to Egg quoting various information i have found out, most of the retailers wont give me any details about the account (data protection act!!!)
i spoke to the customer services team and they have agreed to refund all of the outstanding transactions, however they still expect me to pay £32.00 worth of late payments (ie 2 months) , now it seems a good deal but i still feel a little agrieved that i have to pay £32.00for something i haven't done. The customer services woman said that when she spoke financial crime department they were adament not to refund them but she was doing it for me as a goodwill gesture and also because of the amount of information i had collated for them!
i said to the customer services that i didnt pay the minmum payment because i have a secure message form a online operator advising me that i could just pay for my transactions as long as i make the minimum payment, but i paid for my transactions on that statement so couldnt that be considered a minimum payment? she told me that was the wrong information and that shouldnt have been given to me!!!
i'm filling in my form for the financial omsbudman dont know whether to just cut my looses.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0
