When you get home, log into your router and look for a 'wireless security' option, click on it & then enable 'WPA' or, if available 'WPA2'. give it a good, strong passcode (mix of numbers, letters).
If you are unsure how to do this, ask around your friends, everyone has a mate who knows about WiFi security.Never Knowingly Understood.

thanks i remember a computer guy that i use to live next to setting up my old pc in another huse and has he browsed for my network picked up abot 5 others down the road and two of them he said had no security so i could have just used there broadband for free!! and he set my security on that one but i did myself on this house.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
The security can still be broken on them so make sure the password is strong with letters, numbers and even special characters. If someone tries to crack that it would take quite a long time.
Also using someone else's unprotected WIFI isn't a good idea. If you don't have permission, it's illegal now, but I'm not saying it for that reason. It's because some people set them up unprotected as honey pots. Once someone connects to them they monitor and sniff all traffic on it. They then get your passwords and can even get credit card details.
But an IP address alone is never good enough as evidence as they can be easily spoofed.0 -
thanks for the replies, been very informative. I will ring the cc today as i cant see what has happend is because of one particular reason. I changed my password last night to lots of numbers and letters. Not sure what they are going to say to me and I hope they dont expect me to pay.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

Ask what IP the transactions were logged against - you can check if this is your own quite easily.0

ok will do, they just said the IP address matched one that had been used for a transaction that we had authorised (ie sainsburys)Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -

thanks for the replies, i've just had a call from someone else there and he wanted to see if i had the invoice for a package that arrived at the start if all this, (a dvd was sent to us from woolworths and i phoned them and said i didnt order it and they replied asking em to send it back, i did and they refunded me) it now looks as if that was possibly the first dodgy transaction because form the statement they all followed pretty quickly after that.
not sure if the guy on the other end was mocking me but he said are you saure nobody has got into your house and ordered from your computer we have had that before, i said that there is no way that is happened. Really frustrating now because i cant seem to get to the bottom of it and now i feel that they think its me thats done it. Dont know how i prove i didnt make those transactions?Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Why on earth would someone break into your house to order from woolworths? If someones got in they nick the computer instead of ordering a dvd. The mans an idiot imho.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
