  • Thanks Robbie. Seems Heathrows WS is over 10 miles further from me than the one in Essex. Very unfair when after using the Met Office website to get a guideline so I knew whether I could afford heat or not and now I have a bill I cannot pay. Ive sent in my appeal and Im in the process of contacting my MP. I can only hope.
  • I am in receipt of the higher rate of care in Disability Allowance so should be getting cold weather payments.
According to the site my postcode is eligible for two payments but I have not received anything yet.
    Who do I talk to??

Do you get the other qualifying benefits also? Income support/JSA/ESA if no then you do not qualify for CWP's.
    *SIGH*

if you dont get job seekers allowance or income support with a disability premium then you are not entitled to cwp dla on its own does not count for cwps

    I'm still waiting for mine.

Have just rung them again, payments have now started going out for those who receive IS and a severe disability element on CTC but so far, none showing as being sent out for me. The lady assures me I should see something in the next week or so as payments are ongoing and they are working through the list doing the payments.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • Please could somebody let me know if I am eligible for cold weather payments ?
I am in receipt of incapacity benefit and dla at the middle rate, carers allowance is paid to my wife. Thank you so much.

I am afraid it appears you are not eligable.

  • After using the postcode checker there have apparently been 4 periods where a payment would have been made. I have read how to qualify - I am a single parent on working and child tax credits WITH A CHILD AGED UNDER 5 and no payments have been made to me. What can I do to claim them?

well, technically you are better off so the politician was correct - but you're only 15p better off for every pound you are over the Income Support level (which is the level at which you get full Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit)!

One way around this problem - in fact the only way , and its one the Government would never do as the cost would be immense, would be to extend Cold Weather Payments to people who receive Housing and / or Council Tax Benefit but not Income Support, JSA (Income Based) etc where the assessment of HB / CTB includes a Disability Premium, a Child Disability Premium or similar payments or where there is a child aged under 5 in the household. Unfortunately it will never happen. In your case I doubt you are more than a few pounds a week better off once the HB / CTB calculations have eaten into your Incapacity Benefit so you do end up losing out here. Quite unbelievably, the circumstances you describe were first raised in Parliament in 1980 and no Government of either persuasion has done anything to solve the problem in the 30 years that have passed since then.
I work in an environment requiring proof of ID and on reading a bank statement belonging to an out of work customer with a partner and 2 children I was disgusted at what I learned. Tax credits child benefit and JSA totalling a little over £1000 per month - not to mention the housing and council tax benefit he no doubt is in receipt of also - someone please remind me why I leave my children at home 5 days a week to go out and work when these people are coining it in for sitting on their backsides??? And he was applying for a mobile phone contract of £35 per month whilst also paying £37 per month to Virgin for the television he's able to sit at home and watch all day! There is no incentive for people to go out and work - I know where I'd rather be at least til my kids are grown up

Looking at the criteria, I would say you do not qualify as you are working and not receiving any of the eligable benefits.

You may also be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each qualifying week if you are getting Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance in the assessment phase and have one of the following:
    • a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
    • a disabled child premium
    • Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
    • a child who is under five in the family
