I have been in receipt of Income Support with a 'sickness credit' for three years and I received 2 cold weather payments for last winter. I failed my medical (PCA) with the lovely ATOS people last October and my appeal is currently waiting to be heard with the Tribunals Service. Unfortunately, they have an enormous backlog and tell me I am not likely to be offered a hearing until at least February, possible March. As a result, my Income Support has been reduced (by about 2/3rds) and I have lost my Incapacity Credit and apparently, while that remains the case and until my appeal id heard, I am neither entitled to the cold weather payments.
Having said that, I called Jobcentre Plus several times and remarkably, no-one was absolutely sure of this fact. Can anyone confirm?

My health remains the same and I am determined to win my appeal but surely, this is the lowest of the low in an already prejudicial system. All comments welcome. Thank you for reading!
  • I am pretty sure I qualify as I have actually taken the time to read the criteria ;)

    I receive:
    Income support
    and
CTC with a severe disability element
as my son recieves the high rate of care on DLA

I should receive a payment yes?? What is the address to email them please? I would rather do that than call them as I only have a mobile so it would cost me loads to ring them.

I'm new here so hello to everyone.

Regarding 0845 numbers and mobile charges, theres a really useful website that could help you here. I cant post a link cos I'm a new member, but type "SayNoTo0870" into google and it will come up.

You type the 0845/0870 number into the search function, and it can usually find an equivalent number that is free from mobiles. This website has saved me a fortune! (Sorry if you already know this, I found out about it through Martin's emails).
  • I have a child under five and have medical conditions . . i hate the word disability! So does this mean because I dont claim Income support I wont get them? I dont claim it because its a pain in the bum, i have been told its no longer income support its called something else to do with employment and after all the hassle i cant be bothered to go through all my details again and again (when they all work for DWP, why cant they get your information of there!)

I have a partner who works full time and this benefitys system is a right con, he gets penilised for working full time but if he was to go part-time we would be so much better off. . . i think its work and cant believe i wont get help towards my bills.

No wonder people freeze to death in there houses!

their is no cwp dept to ring, you either ring your local jobcenter or income support, if you dont get an advisor who knows what theyre doing youll probrably waste your time but ive always found income the best people to deal with.

to qualify for cwp payments you need to be in recipet of one of the benefits i.e I/S j/s plus one more find details here.
    Who is eligible?

You may be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each week of very cold weather in your area if you get Pension Credit or income-related Employment and Support Allowance with a support or work related activity component in the main phase. You may also be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each qualifying week if you are getting Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance in the assessment phase and have one of the following:
    • a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
    • a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
    • a disabled child premium
    • Child Tax Credit that includes a disability

if you think this may sound too good to be true thats cos it is... i just tried to get the cold weather payments and told them what income i have and such and such... anyways i have been told the only way im going to get cold weather payments is if i am on a very low income (funded by the jobcenter) i think this is actually wrong i think everyone should be eligable for this... this is not fair on the elderly and the young children who have to still go to school or when the heating dont want to work properly then we dont get a pennys worth of help considering the people who do work and contribute to the government funded things (income support and job seekers) dont get a slight bit of help this is so annoying... i might as well live of benefits then i might be better off...
ive worked all my life until now through no fault of my own, im owed it ive paid my dues thanks.

Hi Geoff, just checked my online banking and, sure enough, I've received £50 CWP today for the last 2 triggers (2nd trigger appeared on the 8th according to the postcode checker).

I received £50 on the 6th January, so that's all 4 payments received ok.

Ohh, I'm in the G51 area, don't know if all the Glasgow areas are paid at the same time but just thought I'd mention this incase anyone, who comes under the same weather centre, has not received their payments yet.

p.s. Yourself, DX2 & Di have been brilliant on this thread. Thankfully I haven't needed your advice, as my payments have gone through ok, but have been reading your replies to other posters and wanted to thank you all for the invaluable help you have given. :T
nice of you to thanks us, its nice to know our help is appreciated :T
