Most of the schools in Devon are closed today, we are a rural area, and as such, almost everyone, teachers, support staff and students, travels in by bus or car, of necessity. No buses running today, except in central Plymouth.
But rural areas don't get gritted so are virtually impassable in some places.. inner city schools have no excuse.. the main roads are clear. Our head lives 35 miles out of town.. she managed, unfortunately.. but we have had less of the sn** stuff than most other places.

bother.. I'll never find it!
Having read loads and loads of research papers and info and diaries of those affected I actually believe the illness named ME is a manifestation of other underlying undiagnosed illnesses therefore as a stand alone illness isn't truly valid.. as do many other leading professionals into studies of the problems associated with it, which I am sure you are most brutally aware of. It doesn't occur without other primary causes.. such as virus/mental illness/severe illness/auto-immune impairment, etc.
I didn't say it isn't affecting lives and people all over the world.. I said I don't think it is an actual illness.. and I quite steadfastly stand by that, people don't just suddenly wake up one day and get diagnosed with ME, they are ill with other stuff for a while and this kind of piggybacks on that.. like a parasite effect, almost.
True I don't have first hand experience at dealing with those who are living with it, though I would be most interested to be.. that sounds a bit 'wrong'.. but isn't meant to... I wouldn't wish anyone on the planet to be ill with anything (apart from the 3 people I would happily kill with my own bare hands) but I would be interested in watching the progression if that makes it sound any better..
I hope this explains my feeling better and I am sorry you were upset, I didn't mean to cause offence.. xx
Now that I do agree with.:D
Medical profession stop at a diagnosis of ME/CFS as there's no funding for further research to find causes. Once symptoms fit a box with a name, all investigations stop there which is a shame.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

Grrr the women in the shop downstairs are so noisy. Think I'll have to put some music on!
Just received this from a colleague, don't usually like forwards but it made me think.

I've just done my S&S Kitchen in less than four minutes and thanks to the work of yesterday it looks amazing again and I'm so pleased and proud. I know it makes complete sense but sometimes it really feels like an uphill struggle getting this place straight and keeping it there and in the first flush of following this thread I feel that it actually might be do-able.
Thank you. Off to make magic in the hall and the stairs - there are three floors to this house, I may be some time.
:T that's how it works! Well done! it's such a great feeling isn't it! Over the 3 years I've been here I formed a habit very early on with regards to my kitchen, it was always a hovel and now it's a quick S&S everyday (mostly) and it's sparkling again, the kitchen list I can get done in 20 minutes tops. Unless there's cupboard clearing then I procrastinate like the procastinator king in procrastinator land.0 -

Exactly.. without any further investigation how do they expect to make any of these people able to live a normal life?!Leading on from the news we saw last night, and posts I saw on here in DT ( I think) why cant teachers/support staff go to their nearest school, like the nurses and doctors have been told to do, to keep them open?

Most call centres have information on how far away people live and how they travel so that they can rejig shifts in this kind of situation, plus have some facilities for providing remote access to allow homeworkers to pick up the burden if necessary.
Incidentally, most power station workers, as they're part of the critical national infrastructure, have to live within about 15 minutes of work AND have planning in place to ensure that they can get in whatever the weather. In the floods in 2008 they were turning the turbines by hand in one gas power station to prevent damage after having to shut it down. You can be required to stay on site if leaving may mean you can't return and the site may not be fully manned.
The other things schools need to bear in mind is that they need to avoid the children being unable to get home.0
