Would Rather Take the Hit - Advice Pls?

Hi

Am a long time seller on Ebay, (seller fb over 2500, 100%), and recently had a buyer who bought a low value item (£3.99 inc p&P), which was posted (POP obtained) day after payment rcvd.

Long story short, three days after payment, v abrupt and unpleasant email rcvd saying item not rcvd. I replied, v polite, explaining Xmas post etc, should arrive soon. Since then, three further v rude emails rcvd, I replied each time very politely eventually explaining that RM would not consider item lost until 15 days after expected date of arrival (which is approx 6th Jan). Also sent link to RM website to corroborate info, and offered full refund on 6th Jan if item not rcvd by this date.

Anyway, 23rd Dec, buyer starts item not rcvd dispute. I ignored. This evening, further unpleasant email rcvd. I have ignored. Dispute not yet been escalated to claim, he has till 12th Jan to do so.

What I want to do is completely ignore this moron, am more than happy to take neg feedback hit. My question is what happens to my seller account if and when he escalates to a claim (and, obviously, wins, as I don't have trackable postage). Assume I don't get suspended for one infringement?

    He'll leave a very justified neg and that might be enough to put buyers off as it makes you look dodgy. Buyers don't like sellers that don't understand the rules, he can also leave you poor stars and they , depending on how much you sell every 30 days, can push you into a close to suspension zone.

    The 15 working days is what RM require you as the seller to wait, it is nothing at all to do with your buyer.

    'very justified neg'? If you read my post, you'll notice I've offered the buyer a full refund on 6th Jan if his item hasn't arrived. :rolleyes:

    It all depends how much you sell per month. More than 30 items and a neg and 1 or 2 * won't hurt, less than that and they might. Keep an eye on your expanded seller dashboard.

    Personally I might well avoid a seller with a neg for refusing a timely refund as it demonstrates a lack of understanding about ebay. usually one neg wouldn't bother me at all.

    And which rule exactly, in your opinion, am I 'not understanding'?

    As Soolin said the 15 days is for RM and has nothing to do with the buyer. The buyer may have been a bit eager but all you have done is antagonise them by quoting RM to them. If you bought something of Amazon that didnt arrive and Amazon told you you would have to wait for the RM claim i'm sure you wouldn't be happy.

    For a long time seller you have quite a poor understanding of your responsibilities as a seller. Personally I would happily give you a neg and depending on your DSRs yes you could be close to suspension

    Sorry, but seriously, have you actually read what I've written?

    I haven't asked him to wait for the RM claim at all, I've said that RM state that the item is not considered lost until 15 working days after it should have arrived. Once it has not arrived after that time, I'll refund him immediately, not claim and then refund him.

    As a buyer I would expect a refund in week 2 and as a seller that is when I make a refund. I would not make a buyer wait 15 working days or thereabouts, the 15 days rule is nothing at all to do with them.

    I would never normally neg a seller for a lost item, I do however neg them if they start quoting RM rules at me that have nothing to do with my purchase.

    Seems OP has offered refund, he's explained he's getting numerous very rude emails (which he shouldn't have to put up with) which is why he isn't keeping the comms open any longer.

    OP you shouldn't be suspended if first offence.
