What a pity that this fascinating thread has turned nasty. Is it my imagination, or are more and more MSE threads ending up that way? Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
Interesting thread! :P
The fact is that the real bargains at the Dell Outlet ended last summer. The days when you could pick up PCs for less than a hundred quid and lappies for a couple of hundred have long gone. I remember when someone got two lappies for 27p each but that was then....
This thread is 18 months too late......... ;D
And the wholesale distribution of scripts helps nobody.

Yes, quite rightly I am the admin of the outlet bargains website which surely gives me the right to voice my opinion about your plans
I did read your first reply, but seeing as your previous reply stated a price I would imagine this would be more accurate and upto date. Im sure the majority of the forum will agree that going from a single advert to £20 (the sentiment to donate to the DEC is a good one and anything which will help them is positive) is quite a large jump.
Regarding your last comments, I have sold under 5 systems on ebay and purely buy to supply myself as well as my friends and family with heavily discounted systems. You will find a large, friendly community on the outletbargains site. You only need to skim through the systems being offered to our members (new members making their first posts have also been offered cheap systems) to see very few people are making large sums of money. Even those that are share their experience and give a great deal to the community in terms of systems they do not require and tips to help people find systems.
The assumptions being made are purely from the members of the outletbargains website that your plans are not only damaging our community, but the entirely dell outlet as a whole. You only need to read Badger's bandwidth calculations to see how a script being used moderately will dramatically increase the bandwidth of the outlet. This will no doubt be noted and investigated ultimately putting the existance of the outlet as we know it at risk.
The script will be used on the Dell outlet NOT your site so it gives you no more right to voice your opinion than anyone else.
As for people being offered "cheap" systems, The script users get the best picks and and the rest of us get their "cast offs" and crumbs, Gee thanks ::)
The doomsday assumptions of investigations ect are crap, and the fact that more than one script user from your site has scurried over here to try to put people off using scripts tells it's own story .....fear of your cash cow being shared out a bit.
As for "arguing" being the reason scripts are not allowed to be discussed is pathetic, it's only because the select few don't want anyone else finding out about them, just greed, pure and simple.Val0 -
Just read the post by MikeT for the guy who couldn't register:If a script is released it will take away any chance of the rest of the people who are just looking for a cheap system for personal use of finding something, and imo that is a very selfish and irresponsible thing to do.
Selfish! what a hypocrite ::)Val0 -
These coders are fleecing the dell site & making money by flogging systems on ebay ( do a search for dell and you'll find out who they are )
This prevents the likes of me and you from getting a bargain.
Perhaps they would like us to shove their systems in our shopping baskets on ebay & then not bother buying them, preventing others from bidding.
As greedy & elitist as they are, this lot will do well until one of us numpties gets hold of the right information & allows everyone a fair chance.
I'll be suprised if Dell dont intervene before us though.
Either way, time is surely up on this one. If we all had the same attitude of keeping information to ourselves this whole site would grind to a halt.0 -

The point he was making was that just because he is admin of the outlet forums doesn't take away his right to have an opinion which is what dbilsborough was implying. As for people being offered "cheap" systems, The script users get the best picks and and the rest of us get their "cast offs" and crumbs, Gee thanks ::)
The systems on offer would otherwise be very hard to get, due to the huge number of people that use the outlet nation wide. You'll get a better system by taking advatange of the kind help of those that have written their own script, than you would get if there were no scripts and no-one helped you, I can guarantee that. Over the course of the outlet forums there have been a great number of people that have gone away very very happy with the system someone has found for them. The doomsday assumptions of investigations ect are crap,
Not at all, if Dell's website grinds to a halt, which it will if 100s of people start trying to use a script on it, then of course they will investigate in order to stop it happening.the fact that more than one script user from your site has scurried over here to try to put people off using scripts tells it's own story .....fear of your cash cow being shared out a bit.
Making stuff up won't help eitherWho are the script users that have hurried over? The people that have posted here are amongst the vast majority of members of our forums that do not use scripts.
As for "arguing" being the reason scripts are not allowed to be discussed is pathetic, it's only because the select few don't want anyone else finding out about them, just greed, pure and simple.
Again, completely made up. There are no secrets in the outlet forums, we all know who does and doesn't use scripts and it has nothing to do with greed. Buying something and selling it on for profit is the nature of our economy and naturally people do what they can to be at the top of th food chain. This isn't some little misprice on a website that everyone is rushing to get there hands on, it's a business opportunity buying Dell's surplas stocks for resale purposes.Just read the post by MikeT for the guy who couldn't register:
Selfish! what a hypocrite ::)
Glad I've been able to register now to respond to that ridiculous statement. There is nothing selfish about what I do, I buy a couple of systems out of the 100s, possibly thousands that go through the outlet a month to help pay for my fiancee to get through college. Where as releasing a script will make the outlet only available to members of this, and the outlet forum, taking it away from everyone else in the country. If you don't see that as selfish I'm glad I'm not aquainted with you in real life.0 -

No-one is fleecing Dell lol, Dell set a price for the systems they sell and people buy them, why on earth is that fleecing them?! It doesn't prevent anyone getting a bargain, other than the very very small number of systems that go through the outlet that are worth ebaying, the scripters spend more time gathering the bargains that would otherwise be spread out across the country and offering them to those that haven't got the skills to write their own script. As I said, you'll get a much better bargain by taking advantage of their help than you would if no-one scripted at all.Either way, time is surely up on this one. If we all had the same attitude of keeping information to ourselves this whole site would grind to a halt.
It's not a matter of keeping information to ourselves, where on earth did that concept spring from? The discussion in the outlet forums is very open and honest. The only thing that isn't discussed is the code of the scripts, and of course someone that has spent weeks coding his own programing isn't going to hand it out to everyone that asks. You hardly see Microsoft publicising the souce code of windows do you ::)
There simply isn't room on the outlet for 100s of people to run scripts. The site won't cope, the number of bargains are so few that hardly anyone will get one anyway, and it will ruin the outlet for the rest of the country. At the moment it is possible for a few people to earn a bit of extra cash from the outlet, with a script out in the open no-one will.
From a personal point of view I couldn't care less if this happens, I'm getting pretty fed up of spending my evenings and weekends working with Dells after doing a full time job too. I just think it's very selfish to ruin the outlet for everyone just for a bit of personal gain, which is what db is doing.0 -
I have spent eight hours over the last few days hunting for a great mobile phone deal, now to help cover my time, if you pay me £10 I will let you know where you can save £40 on Nokia 76** ;)
On topic, you can save money by using Dell outlet, I'm nothing to do with outletbargains.co.uk and I managed to save £600 on a 8600 laptop just by keeping a look out on outlet.
It seems to me that the Guys on outletbargains.co.uk do help you out in finding bargains, I never know about
the drop times before reading their forum.
IMO if your clever enough to write a script then good luck to you, but trying to sell it on this thread is out of order or where will it end0 -

Oggy at OutletBargains
Was last summer 18 months ago?
Just for the record, I know people who have had cracking deals just about 6 months ago.
2400 for just over £100 and top of the range flying 8600 for 600 and a high spec 5150 for around 350.
Just with logging into the site, no script running.
So if thats the case what you nice script guy gettng machines for then or now and the profit....well say no more!0 -

Dress it up any way you want, it is still the cast offs the scripters (you included by the way) don't want. Not at all, if Dell's website grinds to a halt, which it will if 100s of people start trying to use a script on it, then of course they will investigate in order to stop it happening
Then you lot and the rest of us would equally be to blame for that would we not?Making stuff up won't help either Wink Who are the script users that have hurried over? The people that have posted here are amongst the vast majority of members of our forums that do not use scripts
Again, crap, you and adam for a start are both script users who have scurried over here attempting to put people off using the scripts.we all know who does and doesn't use scripts and it has nothing to do with greedThere is nothing selfish about what I do, I buy a couple of systems out of the 100s, possibly thousands that go through the outlet a month to help pay for my fiancee to get through collegeWhere as releasing a script will make the outlet only available to members of this, and the outlet forum, taking it away from everyone else in the country.
