How well is it going to work if everyone's at it?

Surely it's only successful at the moment due to the comparitively small number involved.

Must be a massive hosting bill having gone from "covering your costs" to £20.

Also I would like to point out that the more people who buy this application the poorer your results will be. With everyone having the same application you are no way improving your chances, if anything they will remain the same or just as poor.

Seems like a good money maker though, if people are silly enough to fall for it and buy an application made available to the public then more fool them ;)

Edit: Just to make clear. I have no problems with people using scripts. If you have the knowledge to create a script then good for you and I have no problem with you profiting at all. What I do have a problem with is you selling it to people who have little idea how the outlet works who are under the illusion this will guarantee them bargains. Lets face it, it won't.

...and just to make clear that this guy is Adam, the administrator from https://www.outletbargains.co.uk

nice sarcasm, but if he had bothered to read my first post....

It might have one advert to click on it, or a small one off payment to cover development costs

there are a lot of people at outletbargains afraid that this will kill their cash cow, plus they are making massive assumptions too

Yes, quite rightly I am the admin of the outlet bargains website which surely gives me the right to voice my opinion about your plans ;)

I did read your first reply, but seeing as your previous reply stated a price I would imagine this would be more accurate and upto date. Im sure the majority of the forum will agree that going from a single advert to £20 (the sentiment to donate to the DEC is a good one and anything which will help them is positive) is quite a large jump.

Regarding your last comments, I have sold under 5 systems on ebay and purely buy to supply myself as well as my friends and family with heavily discounted systems. You will find a large, friendly community on the outletbargains site. You only need to skim through the systems being offered to our members (new members making their first posts have also been offered cheap systems) to see very few people are making large sums of money. Even those that are share their experience and give a great deal to the community in terms of systems they do not require and tips to help people find systems.

The assumptions being made are purely from the members of the outletbargains website that your plans are not only damaging our community, but the entirely dell outlet as a whole. You only need to read Badger's bandwidth calculations to see how a script being used moderately will dramatically increase the bandwidth of the outlet. This will no doubt be noted and investigated ultimately putting the existance of the outlet as we know it at risk.

You might have wanted to think longer about that reply ::)

Oops, that was aimed at dbilsborugh's post.

The reason discussion of scripts is not allowed on the forum is because everyone bloody argues about it, and complains that no-one will share with them.

Let's do the sums on this one. Say its 10 people buying your script, thats £200 for you and £50 for the Tsunami appeal, as if that in some way justifies what is BLATENT profiteering. If you're so altruistic, perhaps you should make it £50 for you and £200 for the appeal?

(yes I'm a moderator on the outletbargains board, which clearly invalidates my opinion on the subject ::) )

I have been asked to post the following as the poster is having problems registering on MSE due to the server probs of the last few days.
Firstly I'd just like to clarify who I am :) I've come over here from the outlet bargains forums following on from recent discussions and in respect of this thread. I wanted to try and paint a more realistic picture of what the current situation is and the effects of releasing a script for public use. I've been buying from the outlet since the beginning of 2004 and throughout the whole of 2004 I'd firstly like to make it perfectly clear that I was using completely manual methods to buy my systems, and doing reasonably well out of it. The number of people actually using scripts is very few, and likewise the number of real bargains that go through the outlet that are good enough to make solid profit on Ebay are even fewer, probably about 2-3 in a good week. You can see this from the threads over at the outlet forums as everyone is open and honest about what they have managed to find. These are the only systems the resellers are interested in and the competition to get them is already incredibly tough. There are a much greater number of bargains that go through the outlet that, whilst not good enough to sell on Ebay, still represent a very good saving off Dell's list price and are perfect for people for personal use. These good deals are currently available to be picked up by people using manual search methods as they do not get picked up by scripts, or if they do get picked up by a scripter it's common place for it to be offered in the 'unwanted systems' forum where people looking for a personal bargain can pick them up.

The current situation is good for everyone, there are plenty of bargains available to those who do not have a script and the scripters are all very willing to help people in looking for a system suitable to their needs. If a script is released into the wild there will be 100s, probably 1000s of people trying to pick up anything half decent in a just a few weeks. This means the chances for anyone to pick up a good deal will be incredibly small. So if you are buying this script in the hope of picking up systems to sell on at a profit, good luck! It's almost impossible to get them now, with the number of people scripting increasing by 10x, 100x etc you'd be better off playing the lottery. Think what it will be like when this script has been given to a friend of a friend of a friend etc and there are 10000 copies floating about! If you are just looking for a good system for personal use, why waste the extra £20? They can be picked up easily enough manually and there are people with scripts that are happy to find something for you, just head over to the outlet forums and see whats about in the unwanted systems forum, you'll be very pleasantly suprised ;) To put it simply, releasing a script into the wild will make finding good deals slightly better for maybe 5% of the outlet users, slightly worse for the 5% that currently buy a lot, and for the other 90% it will completely kill any chance of getting a good deal. I have asked dbilsborough why he thinks this is a sensible thing to do but he doesn't seem very keen to answer such questions.

Also, the people that frequent the forums here and at the outlet forums are a very small % of the people that actually use the outlet nation wide. If a script is released it will take away any chance of the rest of the people who are just looking for a cheap system for personal use of finding something, and imo that is a very selfish and irresponsible thing to do. dbislborough saying that there are loads of people worried about losing profits over at the outlet forums is simply not true, the only concerns expressed so far have been for all the people that are going to lose out because of this. I'd implore you to go over there and read this

    http://www.outletbargains.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1254&page=1&pp=10

thread before making your mind up. And I won't even go into the fact that runnng 100s of scripts will make the outlet site grind to halt instantly and cause Dell to have to change the way it works, thus rendering the scripts useless anyway. I hope this has clarified the situation a bit for you, because I wouldn't want anyone to fork out £20 under the impression you'll have 10 uber cheap Dell systems on the way before the end of that month that are going to earn £100s on Ebay, because that simply doesn't happen. It would be worth researching the situation very carefull by looking at the history of the outlet on the forums before making any decisions.

Finally, many thanks to MikeT for posting this for me - I've been trying to register for a few days but it keeps timing out during the registration process - and I hope he enjoys the superb deal on a 3.0ghz Dimension 4700 he has just picked up for under £250 delivered without the need of a script ;)
All Dell'd up ;) several times over :)

Seems a little selfish doesn't it, so I have written a "script", actually it's a Visual Basic application that I am considering giving away.  It might have one advert to click on it, or a small one off payment to cover development costs (I want to keep developing it, plus it will need amending when the Dell site changes which it does from time to time) I haven't decided yet.

    Is there any interest?

Sounds like an Ebay advert to me, I will giving away a "script" for only £20

This is meant to be M(Saving)E not M(Making)E

If you want to sell something then sell in on Ebay with the other "get rich quick" scams. This is just my opinion of course :)

Sounds like the people from this outlet site are getting shirty they might meet a challenge or they wont get so many bargains?

All come across as doing it for others etc etc blah blah

    With adverts like this :

If you want to speak to me about this, or any of the other numerous systems I always have in stock please email me by using the "contact seller" link at the top of the page and ask for my phone number.
