Spud - do you eat things like potatoes (ironic being spud
), pasta, rice, lentils, pulses? All very cheap and are the 'green day' side of the SW plan?

Hi Lou
Wome ruby.
I've spent too many years losing weight for an event, I need to think about it as a forever change rather than a dietIs it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Spud! Healthy food does not cost more than rubbish food!
Cheaper cuts of meat .... belly pork , liver (especially ox) , beef shin , scrag end etc are all cheap .. you don't have to have a crappy, tasteless chicken (like I deiver!) . They take some planning on the menu front bit are worth it.
Go to an 'ethnic' supermarket (plenty of them around Manc) and compare their prices for veg against the Big supermarkets .
Someone has to pay for all the packaging and chemical in processed foods and that would be the customers. .. in money and lack of decent ingredients .
Lecture over . Good luck with your diet . X:D stay wonky

Spud why don't you compose a list of things you would like on your meals for the week and we can all contribute to ways to make it cheaper etc. We are into carot, lentil and veg soup which is sooo filling and so low fat, great saturday lunch
Im feeling good today after being very restrained yesterday (had the smallest portion of souffle) and then did an hours walkI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I think its the planning of the healthy eating thats sometimes the difficult bit Spud.
Today I have ruled a line under all that has passed and like the weather this morning I feel bright and cheerful.
I have decided that November is the month that will be my turning point.....
I will be fit, healthy and happy with my weight
I will pass my re-sit exam on 29th
I will plan all the familys meals and NOT turn to the takeaway for assistance.
I will give 100% while at work and try not to get sucked into the negative cloud that seems to be in the staff room.......
November is going to be great:TBut these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
November is going to be great I agree Lou!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Pepe, I can only speak from personal experience, but we do seem to spend much more when we're dieting or eating healthily. A pack of sausages is cheaper than say a chicken breast or a pork chop each. I love belly pork, but was under the impression it was very fatty and I wouldnt know what to do with liver, shin or scrag.
Lou, I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Planning is what's needed, in fact DD asked me recently if we could start. She just wants to join in with the 'what you having for dinner' chat her mates have every day but it will help in other ways too. Every week, I wander round the supermarket not knowing what we want or need. I end up with cupboards/fridge/freezer full of food, without any proper meals planned.
If I'm honest, meal planning felt a bit wrong. DH works nights, and eats by himself in a morning, me and the kids eat together every evening. I guess I felt unfair planning nice meals for us, and leaving him to fend for himself.
Having thought about it, there are plenty of meals me and the kids enjoy, that DH isnt bothered about. I think I'll spend today making a list of the healthy meals we enjoy, both all together and just the 3 of us. We can then decide what we want the following week and shop accordingly.
Sal, we love soup too. Tonight is pumpkin, but I often do lentil soup or a big pan of chicken and veg soup. Actually, the kids call it bonfire soup, so I'd better do that on Friday.
November is going to be amazing. A complete fresh startIs it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Well November started well for Louise in one way......evidently, if anyone asks the time in Newcastle its always 'five past Sunderland'.
I can rec Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato soup with some red chilli finely chopped on top ......and a dollop of low-fat creme fraiche too?
Or curried Parsnip is great , just Parsnip soup with some curry leaves or powder in it , lovely.
Or cake ......:D stay wonky

Hello Spudly ,
Beef shin is every bit as good as prime beef for s casserole but it needs to be slow cooked for at least 3 hours . So great for oh too. Should be no more than about £3 a kilo from the butchers.
Maybe not with dumplings though?:D stay wonky
