As non MSE as this sounds I am tempted to chuck out my scales and the weigh once a week in the gym at uni. The trouble with scales is that when I start losing I end up weighing in every day, then, when I see a bit of a loss I start thinking I can cheat a little and so ends the diet.

I've not been without a set of scales in my bathroom for the whole of my life though so it's a bit of a leap for me.

My OH does that too Toto, he weighs himself every day, sometimes more than once and really gets disheartened if he puts on a pound here and there. If you think that ditching the scales and using the ones at uni is the way to go for you then do it:T

It also means that you will HAVE to go to the gym to get your weight too:D

    Hi Lou

Long time lurker here, I would also like to join in having received a very much suprise proposal over Xmas from my OH, after 10 years together :T

I think I probably could do with dropping about 2 stones but dont really know, all I know is that I will not be a bride with back fat and bingo wings!

My best friend also received a proposal on the same day and is getting married in the summer abroad so if I could lose it by July I would be :D

Thanks for doing this I was considering joining SW or WW but cannot justify the cost, so the motivator will be reporting in here every week instead.

Good luck fellow dieters - back to lurkdom for a while now.

    Hi everyone,

I'm not really starting until tomorrow, but disaster has struck ........ my scales don't work (dropping them down the stairs probably didn't help), so i'll have to get some more  not really money saving.

So i will start tomorrow and hopefully have a set by the end of the week. My sister wants to lose weight so i'll see if she will chip in for the scales

Oooh, can I join in too?

I'd like to lose about 1 1/2 to 2 stone by the end of May (brother's wedding).

And it'll be a money saving thing for me as I've go loads of lovely clothes I can no longer fit into comfortably - so if I lose the weight I won't have to buy new clothes :rotfl:!!

I've just bought a new house and the 'moving in debts/costs' are racking up, so once I've finished decorating and moving stuff in I'll be able to cycle to work and save on the diesel too.

I'll be doing about 8 miles a day as I'll need to go home at lunchtime for the dogs - that's around 40 miles a week, so if I combine that with a regular run and a boxercise class, coupled with salads I'm hoping to manage at least the lower target.

However, I'm always optimistic at the start of these things!!

My main problem is breakfasts, I find nothing fills me up better than a wodge of bread and jam in the morning (I've tried Special K but am ravenous by mid-morning and then I reach for the biccy tin!).

Any suggestions for easy fill-you-up brekkies? Apart from porridge, which I love, but can only eat smothered in syrup!

Try the Apple and Blueberry porridge, it is lovely.

    Hi Guys,

Dont need to lose any weight at the moment but I thought I might drop on and offer some nutrition/fitness advice if needed :)

Buffy - there are two types of carbohydrate - sugars and complex ones...complex carbs are more difficult for your body to digest so they are broken down more slowly - the chains of molecules are longer basically...

Sports drinks for example are sugar based for when you need extra energy (read sugar) when exercising, brown rice is made from complex carbs so will leave you feeling fuller longer. Its better if you work out to drink water and eat a meal with protein and complex carbs in 20 mins after in terms of total calories and muscle recovery...

Hope that helps! Good luck everyone :)
