I have a confession to make. I once joined an internet slimming club. (think it cost £30). I never stuck to the diet at all and just put in the weight loss I wished for each week. How sad is that? By the 13th week at was at target weight only in the virtual world. Well it's not going to happen this time. I won't be kidding myself or any of you lovely people. Good luck to all of us.0

I'll join you, that's if men are allowed in here? I actually have about 8 stone to lose to reach a healthy bmi, but I'll start with a 2 stone target. I usually follow the SW plan, and usually fail! So I'm just going to concentrate on little things, more veg, more home-cooked meals, less sugary drinks, less snacking, more water and so on!
So yeah, I'll start today, keep you posted on progress. 2010 definitely is the year for a shift in attitude, determination is the key. Good luck all, I look forward to hearing your stories!
Everyone is allowed cornishman:T I shall add you to the Spreadsheet. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

I am not around much during the week due to having one of those pesky things called "a job" to go to so I reckon that weekend weigh ins will be easier for me to manage.
Either Sat or Sun is fine it doesnt have to be one or the other, more of a 2 day window to state your losses.........as with last time can any losses be posted in RED so I can spot them easily. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
we need carbs for energy, as alot of carbs provide fibre as well it's not a good idea to cut them out completely but to eat complex carbs which take longer to break down in the body and leave you feeling fuller longer.get rid of all the pounds by summer !!

As non MSE as this sounds I am tempted to chuck out my scales and the weigh once a week in the gym at uni. The trouble with scales is that when I start losing I end up weighing in every day, then, when I see a bit of a loss I start thinking I can cheat a little and so ends the diet.
I've not been without a set of scales in my bathroom for the whole of my life though so it's a bit of a leap for me.:A

Morning all! :j
Lamarsi, I know what you mean about stopping smoking; food tastes so much better and well, you eat more of it! But you have done well to kick the habit, it's a very hard addiction to beat. :T
I lost a stone in just over 3 months, did nothing magical apart from start to think about what I was eating and move a bit more. I still had the odd crisp sandwich but as a treat once a week not a bag every night. I found it best to cut right down on things like cake and chocolate because I got greedy and compensated food for fags. I find it hard to stop after just oneI enjoyed having simple foods like yoghurt and chopped fruit instead, it still satisfied the craving for something sweet but was a lot more healthier.
I went to my local charity shops and found a few work out dvds which I tried to do at least twice a week too. I also started walking, only round the block or to the local park with my MP3 player for company but I was being active rather than just sitting in the chair watching tv. I tried to walk faster each time so when I got home I was sweating a little but then the cold dark nights came and I didn't want to be out alone at night so I bought a skipping rope for about 2 pounds and skipped in my kitchen whilst my family watched the soaps. I started skipping to 100 and after just stopping smoking it nearly killed me, I thought one time I was going to have an attack on the sofa my heart was beating that fast! but I gradually built up to 500-600 skips without stopping. I also used the stairs to run up and down - this is a killer and I congratulate anyone who can do more than 15-20 in a row! I manage about 10-12 before I feel my hips come out their socketsbut I will build up gradually.
I also tracked everything I ate, whilst on WW I wrote everything down to track the points system they use but it did help me see what I was eating every day. I changed my eating habits and took fruit, tuna or ham salads and cup a soup to work for lunch rather than batch, crisps and bar of chocolate. I also made my own soups; used the leftover meat from Sunday dinner and added loads of different veg, it is really healthy, tasty and better than any tinned soup you can buy. I stopped having three slices of jam on toast everyday for breakfast and swapped it for fruit and fibre cereal or 2 weetabix with chopped banana.
I think one of the things that helped motivate me the most was seeing the 'fat' photo next to a 'nice' photo. I have a copy of each on my wardrobe so everyday I am reminded what I looked like at my heaviest and what my target look is.
So for me to lose weight, be healthier and more active I am going to:
- Keep a daily food diary of everything I eat
- Try to do something active each day even if it lasts for ten minutes, build up gradually; skipping, exercise dvd, the stairs or quick walk round the block
- Be realistic, if I have the odd biscuit don't beat myself up too much, be honest with myself and put it in my food diary
- Keep positive, remember it took me time to put the weight on, it will take me time to get it off again but I will look and feel so much better!
- Keep coming on to this thread and encouraging others
