Good morning everyone! I hope everyone is doing well!

Payday today! Whoop! Whoop! Off to check bank balance in a moment - usually arrives just before lunch though.

Hey, you'll never believe what I found out last night!! The government here gives you back 75% of your childcare costs each month to help encourage Mums back to work! OH found out from the secretary at work yesterday. Am very pleased about that. Will come in handy when the time is right.

OH is still trying to get his contract sorted though :( They gave him some rubbish excuse yesterday, so I pointed out the flaw in their excuse and he's going to also point it out to them today! lol. But, provided he gets the contract sorted, we can then start looking at buying a place here! Soooo happy about that :)

    Morning all,
funds in my bank this morning and this is what i've done with it so far....
Cleared my catalogue - £368:j, paid my park hampers for this year - £235, paid for our break to centre parcs £190, put £500 into savings for car ins due next month (hoping to pad some of this back to loan as i dont think we'll need that much extra for OH's ins - i hope:o) plus £7 to pad tin
    Total pad (if i can count it as a pad:o) - £1300

Angelic - unfortunately befriending a mechanic is what caused the problem in the first place, last years mot was done by a friend of a friend of my mums and passed with flying colours tho apparently it shouldnt have. My dads friend did it this time he was just totally honest with us .Basically the car has been unsafe to drive for the last 6-9 months and with our ds in the car all the time it doesnt bear thinking about. So we're scrapping it. Got a 'decent' deal on a car tho.

Ok so this is probably a silly question but i'm gonna ask any way. Now i've cleared my catalogue account i've got some commission to claim back. Should i also have my account closed too? I'll never use it again but will me having credit available on that affect my chances of getting credit in the future? Basically our fixed rate is up on our mortgage at the begining of next year and i want us to be in the best position possible so we can get a half decent deal and want to know if having the account open will affect our chances.

Sorry for all the waffle so early on:o

  • I'd get the account closed Nicky, mainly because of the temptation! :D

I will be closing all of my CCs down as they get paid off (I may keep one for emergencies in the freezer!).... not that its gonna be happening any time soon!

I'm just wondering how everyone is doing avoiding the temptation of the CC's etc?

I think I last used my mine in June/July to buy the flights home for my brother's Wedding. And for me, the biggest temptation now is to use it for flights home. Which reminds me, must send extra to UK this month to pay for flights! lol

But, other than that, I don't really think about them anymore. They're still in my purse, which is weird. I think it's because I feel I need them with me as back up for emergency. Like when I got stuck in the snow in January - if I had to, I could've used the card to pay for a hotel room overnight.

Not sure why I can resist them now, but not before. Maybe it's just a change in my attitude, not just towards the CC's, but to finances and debt in general.

How about everyone else? Do you find it easier now? Or more difficult?

I would but I have 2 weekends away this month, another where OH's Mum is here and Dutch lessons in the evenings, so I would be a bit rubbish.

Unless, you're all OK with the totals sometimes being a day late here and there?
