Couldn't make myself move yesterday so thought I would have a go at making a sock monkey and here he is. OH named him experimental Eddie. :rotfl: My stitching is atrocious but it was good practice and I'm quite confident I could do another one now (but better). It took hours though as I was hand sewing him - have such a sore neck today.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. The sock monkey looks really good :T
What do the cats think of it? lolErrrr...come back later0 -
Thanks guys.
You should see the stitching close up though. I think the real test would be giving him to my nephews and nieces - he would be in pieces pretty quickly I think. :rotfl::o
Wesker - the cats seem to be unsure and the most timid one just runs away when she sees it. The others have come up to give him a sniff though.

Love the sock monkey - are you thinking about a bit of a cottage industry or just for presents?

Thanks gilli.
I think I will just be making the sock monkeys as presents for now since I'm still learning, don't think they would be good enough quality to sell. I've started my second monkey now so have got the bug - been reading the sock monkey thread on here and looking at other people's monkeys - great fun.
The camouflage monkeys are great - my oldest nephew would love one since he's into all things army.
The recruitment lady called me yesterday to confirm that I'm starting my induction on Monday so looks like it's going ahead. :j Not sure if they have contacted references or got the disclosure through but assume the medical must have been ok or they wouldn't let me start. Feeling a bit weird at the thought of going back to full time work after four months of unemployment. But in a good way.
Plans for today include actually leaving the house *gasp* - taking my library books back and getting some more out; getting some toiletries etc from Boots and going to Farmfoods for some bits. Really should go to Asda for big shop and Pets at Home for cat litter but hate doing it myself as it's too heavy. Might just wait and get OH to come with me tonight - he will be pleased.
Might be going down to see my sister and the kids, think my mum is down there as well today. Maybe Eddie should go on a visit and see if he survives. :rotfl:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Well I took Eddie the sock monkey down to my sister's to see what the kids thought of it (and to see if he would survive!).
As soon as I took him out of my bag the twins held their arms out to take him! They had a bit of a tussle then seemed ok about taking turns. Since the twins are just coming up for 2yo he was dragged around by his arms, tail, legs and ears - and he survived. :j One twin also started sooking his ear and lying on top of him. :rotfl: So I think they liked him! Will make twin sock monkeys for the twins as have two pairs of baby pink socks with cerise pink polka dots on them.
My oldest nephew asked if I would make one for him and the 3yo also had a good play with him. Since it's the 3yo's birthday next month I might try and make a pirate sock monkey for him.Still leaning towards a camouflage one for oldest nephew but need to find the socks first - his birthday isn't for a couple of months though.
Also, have been reading Hypno's diary and she MADE me buy the 30 day shred dvd - where you do 20 mins exercise a day. I tried it out this afternoon as it had just arrived. OMG, it was the longest 20 mins of my life! Jillian Michaels is Satan and it was only level 1! I was almost crying with the pain of it! I'm so unfit. I really need to tone up though so need to stick with it. I think the weights I was using were too heavy as well which probably didn't help. Hard to say though as I have noodles instead of arms - no muscle whatsoever.
I was so traumatised by shred that I had to go and eat Nutella out of the jar with a spoon.:rotfl: Hmm, I wonder why I need to exercise.

Be careful you don't make a rod for your own back! I once made my nephews little snowmen to go on the tree and they then expected a knitted toy every Christmas! It's nice though that my sister still brings all the toys out each Christmas and makes a display of them.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Good point gilli - they always run up to my mum when she visits to see what she has in her bag for them.:rotfl:She made the mistake of bringing them wee presents once too often!
My sister was looking at me like I was a lunatic because I've started making monkeys out of socks. :rotfl: Started a new monkey on Wednesday but have only done the legs and body so will try to do a bit more later today.
Got up early this morning and cleaned out the litter tray, cleaned the bathroom, did a hand wash and a white washing. Then I went back to bed with a cup of tea, a book and my oldest cat to cuddle - she is great and will lie next to me snuggled up with my arm round her. She looked so funny with her wee furry face poking out from under the covers.
Need to do some ironing later and make dinner and some cookies.
I'm all sore and stiff from starting shred yesterday and am dreading doing it again today!:rotfl:I'm so unfit it's unreal so will have to force myself to do it. I also realised why I was finding it so difficult with the weights I was using yesterday - I thought they were 1.25kg but they were actually 2.25kg.:rotfl: Yes, it's official, I'm a total nugget.
:rotfl: I only found out when OH told me.

Well, I've done shred day 2 and it was just as exhausting. I was bright red and out of breath by the end of it and also "glowing" quite profusely.
I'm quite embarrassed at how unfit I am, the weights are killing my arms but I suppose that's the point really.Used 1kg weights today btw, not 2.25kg ones. :rotfl:
Think I'll do some more sock monkey making for a while and either watch some tv or listen to the radio as I sew.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0
