As promised here's the recipe for Pumpkin and Apple Soup. It's from the Abel & Cole Cookbook: Easy, Seasonal, Organic but isn't on their website.

ooh this sounds gorgeous thanks for sharing!

while most won't have pumpkins this could perhaps be modified to use sweet potatoes or perhaps carrots in place of the pumpkin, not quite the same but i suspect both would work especially the sweet potatoes

I've never made savoury muffins before so tried these cheese and vegetable muffins
I had no courgette so used 2 cups of carrot. It lacked some flavour so next time I will make it with some sweated onions and strong cheddar. Shouldn't have used the mild cheddar.

oooh this sounds fantastic i'm def going to have to make these soon, probably tomorrow. i don't have any courgettes but i think carmelised onions and perhaps some grated potato (it will have a similar wet consistency of courgette but won't overpower on flavour) also i don't have any sesame seeds but i do have some poppy seeds i collected from the zillions of corn poppies we had at our old house (don't worry, i checked they are safe to eat just milder than commerically sold poppy seeds) should be pretty tasty, thanks so much for this it's really spurred my imagination mmmmm

mmmmm those sound amazing i will have to try making those with my wee girl, i suspect she'll love them too!

that also reminds me of something i used to eat at an all you can eat mexican buffet in texas called sopapilla's http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ingrid-hoffmann/sopapillas-recipe/index.html

they always served them hot after the meal and you tear open a corner (they !!!!!! up and are then like a pita pocket) you put in butter and honey in the pocket and eat them mmmmmmmm

Root Veg including Kohlrabi (which is not too common) Ill get a pic up when its cooked - It smells lovely though!

mmm i love kohlrabi! we've used it grated in with apples and carrots to form a sweet slaw as well as in salads and soups but i've not tried it roasted before so thanks for that idea i've also heard it's quite nice in mash

i did a pork roast last week and also added in some less common veg including celeriac, swede, sweet potato, turnip and tomato (love the tomato as the juices spill out and mix with the soy sauce i sprinkle it all with and make a lovely sort of glaze) these were in with potatoes, onions and carrots and were so good everyone was going back for seconds of the veg instead of the meat for a change mmmm :T

Butternut squash is interchangable with pumpkin and all the supermarkets sell it.

good point for those that like butternut squash thank you!

alas i don't care for it myself and find it rather expensive. i used to eat a LOT of pumpkin when i still lived in the states and i don't like the taste of butternut or the texture compared to pumpkin but that's probably because i ate so much of it (just like i can swear to you that digestives are NOT 'just like graham crackers' they aren't they are not the same texture and aren't sweet and crispy like graham crackers but will do in a pinch i suppose)

oh dear that sounds snobby, didn't mean that really it's just that i love pumpkin (and not so much on the butternut asyou gathered!) but for anyone that isn't as fussy about that all then yes i think butternut would work too. i offered up some other suggestion that might not be quite the same texture or taste but should still taste good... i like options though that fits in with my style of cooking as i like to chuck things in that 'seem a suitable substitution' and see what happens!
  • Today I am making a chicken korma from scratch- first time doing it so fingers crossed it turns out nice. Really hope so cos I spent a fortune on spices, rather than 71p on a jar of sauce, in the hope that we will make it regularly!

I have sat and done a meal plan for a month today to try and stop me buying stuff I don't need and use up what I have. New recipes for February will be...
    • Sesame chicken 'kebabs' (well January, as having these tonight) - yummy, but very filling. Made 6 small burgers from one chicken breast
    • Chicken and broad bean tagliatelle - nice, but I tried to substitute creme fraiche with yogurt which split. It tasted nice though
    • Lemony prawn and pea pasta - nice! Added lots of pepper which made it tasty
    • Pesto pasta (not very challenging, but i've never tried pesto before!)
    • Sticky lemon chicken
    • Sweetcorn and spinach tortilla
    • Garlic prawns in coconut cream
    • Mexican bean burgers
    • Thai chicken cakes with sweet chilli sauce
I didn't realise there were that many before I put them all down! I have everything I need here as well, so I have no excuses for buying more food.
