My other half really liked it and i thought it was just ok but as a casserole it served both of us with left overs for another night.
I think the other half of the sauce will end up making chilli next week. Its in my freeze for now.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but I have been looking at 'spending' my clubcard points/vouchers on a subscription to the good food magazine as otherwise they'll just go back to Tesco on shopping!
How much are the magazines usually each? Roughly how many recipes are in each magazine? Oh, and are they new recipes rather than what's already online?
Thanks in advance if you can helpGrocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Haven't tried anything new in a couple of weeks as busy using up the already cooked contents of the freezer.
However have been watching Barefoot Contessa and saw what looks like an easy recipe for Shrimp (Prawn) Bisque which OH thought he would like.
So will have a go at that this week as have all the ingredients available.
One wee problem though, I can't taste it as allergic to prawns  so will have OH standing by to do the tasting.
Also want to use up cooked roast lamb which is in the freezer so have been browsing the appropriate thread on this forum for inspiration - not decided yet which to try.0 -

I pay £14 ish (I think) for 6 months subscription. You get one mag a month. The mag comes through almost a month early. There's loads of recipes, some tips, some comparison bits and I don't think all the recipes are on the web (although alot of them are). There's also a bit at the back with extra recipes from the tv programs like masterchef etc.
They usually do a featured three course meal or party menu from one of the chefs with lots of pictures to help too.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Thanks for your reply. It sounds good, I think i'll go for it as it's £9.50 worth of vouchers for an annual subscription which seems a bargain (I did have a look in a shop at the weekend and see they're over £3.00 each).Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

It's £3.40 in the shops and this months had 107 recipes. Some of them are already online but to be fair I'd not have spotted them if it wasn't for the magazine. There is also various vouchers, articles and offers. Every so often you get a freebie which is like a mini cookbook. I made Delia's Bloody Mary soup as todays experiment, very nice, cheap and fast to make.

Also made Hummus for the first time yesterday using fresh cooked chickpeas rather than tinned ones.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -

This week planning any of the following chicken stew, ratatouille or fishcakes out of the same book
Stuck to this and made the fishcakes out of the Thrifty Cookbook (less thrifty as used fish from the freezer that had been in there quite a while!) and were nice and did for 2 meals with generous portions
Used quite a bit of the quick tomato sauce in various things - a chicken and pasta bake which did 3 meals (2 evening and 1 lunch)
Made Jamie's Leek and Potato Soup out of Ministry of Food at the weekend to freeze and use up for lunches.
This week not sure what to make as new
freezer has 1 piece of steak, braising steak, frozen peas and beans, frozen red cabbage, frozen sweetcorn, wraps, cream, apple sauce and an apple pie
Really need to use the peas, green beans and broad beans and sweetcorn and wraps up
Not sure which chef will have a recipe for these things!
Wonder if a mix of them and tinned tuna with grated cheese and cream wrapped in a tortilla and oven baked in a portion of tomato sauce and some herbs (either parsley/coriander/basil) would make a nice cheap tea with some leftovers?

I have been being quite good recently-making a combination of things from my cook books or online recipes.
We have had-river cottage everyday sausage and root veg stew (2 weeks ago)
tonight we are having arroz con pollo from economy gastronomy, and last night we had jerusalem artichoke and chicken pies
I am really enjoying making the different things, and love reading through my cook books for ideas0
