Today my new recipe will be crumpets :o

I'm determined to have a NSD and we usually have crumpets at weekend so since I have 61p lidl bread flour and all the other ingredients in, I guess there's no excuses!! :D

Next week I shall be making beef stew and dumplings - not done either before, always make chicken casserole and cobbler toppings.

  • This week made thai chicken cakes as featured on good food. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1883/thai-chicken-cakes-with-sweet-chilli-sauce

Didn't have fresh chilli so used dry chilli flakes but it worked ok.

hubby liked it but it was alot hotter than a normal korma so the kids weren't keen
.Also made red onion and chilli bhajis to go with that and they went down extremely well (the recipe is in the new issue of goodfood mag)

Then Wednesday i did buffallo chicken wings and they were a complete success, even my youngest ate them which is always a surprise. The recipe for them is also in this months good food mag

Made Kashmiri Chicken today and it was very nice, not too hot and very easy to make. Ate some tonight with boiled rice and a couple of portions left for freezing.

I've fallen by the wayside a bit, mostly due to work and commuting making me too tired to cook. I don't really count baking as I do that almost automatically, but I have done a few recipes for things like biscuits that I hadn't tried before.

Anyway tonight I'm cooking something I've definitely never made before - haggis! Half of me is excited to try it and the other half is petrified I'll hate it. I'm steaming it and serving it with turnips and mashed spuds (neeps and tatties) which I've been told is traditional.

I must have registered this thread title in my head without realising because I set myself the same challenge yesterday :D.

Great reading, and lots of inspiration. I have far too many cook books, and I have committed to get rid of those that I don't use.

    First experiment was this:

    Jambalaya.jpg

Jambalaya a la Delia. We had Sunday Lunch yesterday (visitor), and I needed something quick and easy for lunch today to use up some of the chicken. DH and SS requested noodles with chicken bits but were rather impressed with this instead.

Just discovered this thread via FB!

Well it is something I have been doing for a while

Last week made the apple and mincemeat tarte out of Delia's Christmas - just about alright but at least it used up the jar of mincemeat and old apples!

Yesterday made a chicken pie out of Nigella's How to Eat Book

Today made Chicken Risotto out of the Thrifty Cookbook and a quick tomato sauce out of the same book

This week planning any of the following chicken stew, ratatouille or fishcakes out of the same book

    Love the ideas on here!

    Red Onion Marmalade

Must try harder :) .........penny you put me to shame x
  • This weekend I batched cooked the tomato sauce recipe in this months good food magazine (sorry cant find the recipe online yet) and then used it to make the sausage and butter bean recipe as suggested. My other half really liked it and i thought it was just ok but as a casserole it served both of us with left overs for another night.

I think the other half of the sauce will end up making chilli next week. Its in my freeze for now.
