for anyone who has a mortgage with Abbey they're now offering a Zero current account with no charges for overseas withdrawals...given that Nationwide do now have a 1% fee outside Europe it may be a better option for a few. The catch is that you can only have the account so long as you have a mortgage with Abbey...it doesn't appear to be a once you're in you're set forever sort of thing.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Without looking it up...is it not a Santander thing ..so also covers A&L?

Just had a look - looks like its the Santander Zero Card and certainly through A&L it looks like you don't need any other accounts/mortgages with A&L (Santander). What a mortgage does is make any balance transfer from a current CC free?

It's the Zero current account I mentioned...not the credit card. The Abbey Zero credit card has been around for quite ahwile...the current account is new and the debit card associated with it has no fees for overseas spending...and only available to mortgage customers.

Oh, and probably it covers other banks now under the Santander umbrella.

Given that the Santander Zero Credit card also carries all the insuranace implications associated with a CC along with:
    • 0% foreign exchange fee
    • 0% cash advance fee1
    • £0 annual fee
    • 0% for 3 months on purchases from date of
      account opening
    • 0% for 12 months on balance transfers from date
of account opening. 3% balance transfer fee applies (minimum £5
it seems like a no-brainer to go for instead of the Zero current account...unless I'm missing something.

Interest on cash advances/withdrawals? There won't be any if you're using a debit card...there will be if you're using a credit card.

We would never in a million years take out cash on a credit card unless it were an absolute dire emergency...maybe you look at it differently. :)

Wouldn't worry me in the slightest. I'd simply log on and pay it off that day....and even if I left it 10days it would be a massive £7.60 in interest to withdraw £1000.

Hi, can anyone tell me who has ordered dollars through Crown Currency Exchange, do they deliver on time? I have quite a small window before going to Vegas in April to get the 1.6499 rate? Thanks very much

Like I said - different way to look at it and of course that's fine...I personally don't use online banking anywhere other than from my home account so logging in and paying it off that day wouldn't be an option. And I just don't see the point in paying £7.60 if I don't have to. We already have a PO credit card for overseas credit card transactions and have no balance to transfer, so no benefit for us in the Zero credit card account. The Zero current account has the benefit of bettering the Nationwide Flex Account though. :)

The current account isn't available to A&L customers.

Are you sure that is right, I have seen connections of 50 minutes, I cant believe the airline is confident of doing that. I am like Ferf and worry about missed connections so would want about 3 hours.

I work in the travel industry, and it is true although i highly doubt 50 mins is put on by an airline as the GDS (Global Distribution System) will warn of a short connection and generally not allow it to be booked. 50 mins is most likely two different tickets being sold as one.
