Just wondered where everyone is getting their flight prices from?

We will be flying from Manchester 17/09/10, returning 08/10/10 and the best I have is £512 each with American Airlines, stopping twice in Chicago & Dallas - not great!! We are looking to fly into Reno & out of Las Vegas (as we're getting married in Lake Tahoe), so it's not a straightforward return flight, but even when I was looking to go in and out of Las Vegas and just add on a cheap Southwest flight to Reno I wasn't getting anything less than £500 each.

Are the people getting the good prices flying mid week (our dates are Friday - Friday due to work commitments) or am I looking in the wrong places? I've gone on the AA website direct as well as Delta and US Airways, and all the prices are similar, if not more expensive, with either 2 stops on the way or an overnight stay in Chicago.

Outbound: Wed 25th Aug. Inbound: Tues 31st Aug.

    Delta. 1 stop. Manchester -> Atlanta -> Vegas - £450pp

What I did was, I opened EVERY flightchecker website (see MSE's Flight Page) and entered my flights dates in every site. And then simply flicked through the results.

I found that always the flightcheckers were cheaper. When I booked our flights, we got them for £450pp from TravelPack.com, however Opodo.co.uk had the same flights at £468 and Delta themselves were selling them at £472.

Also some sites check the US websites of certain flight companys which can save you loads. After booking for £450, I curiosly checked again (first and last time I did this) and found US Airways (US not International/UK site) were selling flights from Manchester to Vegas - 1stop - for a mind-boggling £380 each.

Just keep checking and see what you come up with. It's my first time to Vegas in August and I was checking flights from November last year (waiting for the 'sale') and the cheapest I saw them at was £420 in November, this rose to around £435 in December and since then I haven't found any below £440/£445.

I've just checked your dates on US Airways site and it is showing £465 per person, with one change at Philadelphia. If you could fly on Thursday instead of Friday, the price drops to £366

I'm heading to Vegas for 3 nights in June as part of a surpise honeymoon that I'm arranging for my wife to be.

Not really sure where to stay in Vegas. I want somewhere posh, centrally located that will leave a lasting memory (and impress her!). A big bubbly bath would be excellent.

I've been thinking about the Bellagio, but only really because I'd heard of it and the fountains, but I've now just seen a good offer on the MGM Grand for about $275 for the 3 nights in a Celebrity Suite, with free buffets etc (222 offer).

I'd be happy to pay up to £100 a night for something special, but would also like to save as much as possible to spend elsewhere on the trip if possible.

Have I any chance of a £100 a night Suite (or room with posh bath!) at the Bellagio?

Would a suite in a 4 star place be better than a normal room in a 5 star place? What's the location of the MGM Grand like?

Sorry for all the questions, and I know there's not a perfect answer, but any pointers would be appreciated.

Advice on ways to explore the Grand Canyon would also be good, I fancy doing it either by chopper or white water rafting through it. Both seems pricey though?

Are they the sorts of things thats best to book ahead or buy when I get there?

Which MGM deal have you been looking at and what are your dates in June? It's not shown on the offers on their website but we used this link from the Smarter Vegas offers email and have booked our room for $55 per night:

    https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=promo&pid=001&show=rates&code=MGM039&kbid=1162904&sub=1953753!N!MGM039

Our dates are in October but they have a lot of dates in June for $55 or $69 per night. This is the MGM "222" deal and includes 2 free buffets, 2 free cocktails & 2 free admissions to Studio 54 or Tabu. It does depend on when you're going though, as weekends are a lot more expensive than weekdays.

Thanks Vikki, Ive rebooked our stay at the MGM grand from the crazy 8 promo to this one and for $100 more we have gone from a standard room to a celeb spa suite for our 5 night stay.

Other options are people like Delta or Continental that would leave direct from Glasgow to another state with a changeover to Vegas. These of course can involve some lengthy changeovers and I have seen some complain about immigration when changing states being both lengthy and quite stressful.
No need to worry about immigration at a change over city, you will have to go through it at Vegas anyway if you fly direct. we always change in a U.S. city, been through Miami, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Atlanta, San Fran, Detroit, Chicago, L.A., and JFK. all ran smooth without fuss, the U.S. authorities in my view are more laid back than our jobsworths, and just want to keep everything flowing
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Yey - someone used my tip :j Finally I feel like I have contributed something useful to this forum instead of just taking everyone else's advice!! I'm still keeping an eye out for any better offers as our booking is refundable if cancelled, but that 222 deal at the MGM looks pretty unbeatable for our dates.
