hi have not really thought of a budget and like most food apart from indian and sushi!! Sorry know thats a bit vague, my husband and I normally like to have one meal where we splash out when we are away if we are going without the kids:)

Mix at the top of Mandalay Bay is good and has amazing views. Its not too formal but definately special meal type atmosphere. It serves French food but its not too French. We used a restaurant.com voucher last time which kept the cost down (a $50 off voucher cost $4).

L'atelier de Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand is my fave. A tapas style French menu and diners sit at the bar which is round the kitchen so you see the chefs preparing everything. They often do a prix fixe menu which is excellent value or there is a 10 course tasting menu of small plates. The rasberry dessert I had here is the best dessert I have ever had in my life!

I also like Daniel Boulud at the Wynn. You can sit out on the terrace next to the lake and watch the bizarre frog show! (Specify you want to sit outside when booking). I had a very good steak frites there.

the total flight time is approx 14.5 hrs each way - i assume this includes the 2 hour wait between connecting flights

It will include the wait for the connection, but that time may not be 2 hours - just depends on what flights you are on...and on most of the 3rd parties like netflights - you can see who the flights are with - just have to click for additional details, though some airlines code share, so may be booked as one airline but actually on another airline's planes.

I have a question for the ladies and it is vitally important... I'm going in late February and I have no idea what shoes to take! :rotfl:

We're going to LA and SF as well and so need shoes that will work for all parts of the holiday... basically, will i need flip flops and wedges or trainers and boots? I'll be wearing ugg boot type things for the flight as they're very warm so I'll have them whatever.

In terms of comfort - they're all the same for me! I'm thinking more in terms of temperature and climate.

    Thanks ladies!

Believe me, shoes that seem really comfy at home can be killers in Vegas. I would suggest taking a pair of well worn trainers, not new ones, then your feet will thank you.

Do you really mean you won't enjoy it as some people don't classify it as the real canyon????????

No, that's not what I meant at all. I obviously value other people's opinions or I wouldn't frequent internet forums, but I do make my own decisions.

What I meant was that I wasn't that impressed by the so-called "real" canyon, partly due to the lack of colour, but mostly due to the awful flight over it.

If the West Rim is even less impressed than the South Rim then to me it would be a waste of money.

I suppose I am thinking of giving it another go to see if I like it any better a second time. I wouldn't grudge the money if I really liked it, but I would if I had another underwhelming experience.

Totally agree - I usually take a pair of trainers and a pair of sandals and that's about it...and Luci is so right about not taking new shoes...you really will walk and walk and walk so not the time to break in new shoes. Bring blister plasters or moleskin just in case (I once walked from Bally's to CVS to get moleskin when I already had really bad blisters - bad idea!) I probably wear my trainers 90% of the time we're in Vegas just because of the comfort factor. And a lot of people will be doing the same - you won't look out of place.

its our first trip to Vegas at the end of May and just wanted some advice on eating out, I know the subject is probably never ending but would like to have one special meal while we are there so any recommendations would be very helpful, and also what buffets people recommend, thanks

How much are you thinking of spending per person as this will influence what can be recommended?

I would second Mon Ami Gabi as we always have a good meal there. However there are more high end places, with prices to match.

For buffets we really like the Spice Market for breakfast, but not so much for dinner. The Wynn and Bellagio are both really nice, but among the most expensive. We also like Harrah's.

Ones to avoid - Circus Circus, the IP, Flamingo.

Another vote for Mon Ami Gabi - that time of year the weather will be perfect too.

Though it's not fine dining...so if it's fine dining you're after - there are many options (none of which I have tried). we love it...good food, decent value and fantastic atmosphere.

But sit on the patio - you'll have to wait, it's first come first served, but they will give you a buzzer to call you back when your table is ready.

It's not the best quality video - but was our first time eating there and we got the centre table right against the railing...we loved it and have been back (though never in such a good spot!) almost every trip. :)

Oh- and buffets - will you have a car? We absolutely loved the one at Red Rock Station...all the Station buffets are supposed to be the same (Main Street Station downtown is also good and very good value for money - but not actually part of the Station Group).

We loved Wynn - but we've also never had to pay for Wynn always having gotten it free on slot points promos. For nearly $30/person, it's quite a lot for a buffet.

hi thought i would update with the latest flight find lol!

fly from dublin to heathrow then fly direct to vegas for £378.70 per person - seen this on netflights and it leaves 10/11/10 returning 17/11/10

the total flight time is approx 14.5 hrs each way - i assume this includes the 2 hour wait between connecting flights

i tried continental airlines but i couldn't seem to find a time table for october/november (flying bfs to newark then to vegas)

this is the best price by around £25 quid so far and if we haven't found a better package deal by sunday we will check this flight price and hopefully get it booked!

has anyone flown this route before? from dub to heathrow then to vegas? i must admit im anxious about the flight being really cramped - from netflights it looked like the flights were BMI - i wonder does this mean the heathrow to vegas one aswell?! will maybe give them a ring to check that out

    Good price on the flghts.

If my memory serves me correctly, you were looking at £680pp for the Mirage as a package. If you book these flights you will then have £600 per couple ($960) for the hotel.

You will have your pick of hotels at an average of $125 + tax a night, especially when the offers start coming out.

Re sore feet and blisters in Vegas.

I read on another site that if you use a cream deodorant/anti-perspirant on you feet you won't get blisters as it is the sweat that causes them.
